Clottey is not a cherry for anyone from 140 to 154lbs. Clottey could give a very difficult night to anybody.

Clottey is a game tough guy but tailor made for Manny.

He is also in the same camp so drug testing won't be an issue.

I feel it is a cherry pick.

I think it's an admission of tremendous admiration for these people to think that a former flyweight is cherry picking a tough boxer who comes in as super middleweight during fight night.

I can't believe no one else realizes this.

People are writing clottey off as some 1 dimensional easy target for Manny Pacquiao who will be outweighed by 20 pounds.

Every human is "a former flyweight". Well most adult males.

I think it's shamelessly disingenuous to refer to the current welterweight champion as just some former flyweight. 15 years is a long time for a boxer to grow. It's not a cherry-pick by any means, but he's fighting a guy that is defined more by his losses than his wins, including a loss to Pac's previous opponent.

I think Pac and his team clearly see a points win based on activity in their future. Clottey is tough, with solid defense, but his poor workrate and lack of footspeed will make it hard for him to land enough to win, I think.

If not Mayweather, Pacquiao should be fighting at 140 in the first place.

It's an acknowledgment of Manny's ascent.
It's to remind you guys that clottey has been fighting at this weight far longer than Manny, and you guys think this is a cherry pick.
    Unbelievable logic.

I didn't say he was cherry picking, and I voted no in the poll, so kindly don't refer to me as "you guys." My point, and it's valid, is that outside of the weight advantage, what attributes do you see in Clottey that will give Pac trouble? He's not a notably strong puncher, doesn't have great handspeed, or a slick style, or a high workrate...

Sure, he's been fighting at a higher weight than Manny for a long time, but so had Cotto. So had Hatton. So had DLH. The whole little man fighting big men angle is played out now. Manny is a legitimate welterweight. He owns a belt, he's comfortable at the weight. He's not a big welterweight, but he's a welterweight, so he no longer gets a pass for fighting other welterweights.

Like I said, Clottey is the best fight at 147 that is available in the timeframe. It's a good fight, and I'll watch it. But it's not a superfight, by any stretch, and it's not a step up from Cotto.

Also, please note that Manny's fight weight has been around 148 or 149 since he moved up. That's the same ring weight that Mayweather has had for every fight of his at WW where it fight night weights were taken. If Mayweather was a real welterweight (and he was, regardless of the "he's not REALLY a welterweight comments that were made when he moved up") then so is Manny.

    <cough> De La Hoya <cough>

Unless you've decided to accept that DLH was a corpse for that fight and it really shouldn't count.

    Ring WW rankings:

    1st Pac
    2nd SSM
    3rd PBF
    4th Cotto
    5th Clottey

How the hell could Pac cherry pic the highest ranked guy he can possibly fight at WW??
Who the **** is dumb enough to vote yes???
