What are your thoughts on this?

    The top 10 is

How do you guys think he would fare against guys like Quintana, Collazo, Berto, Judah? What about Cotto, Mosley, Clottey?

    Where would u rank him?

i think it's just about right. pacquiao could give any of those who are ranked below him tough fights. incedentally, pacquiao is also ranked #2 by the ring at lightweight.

Outrageous. This is where the actual details of him beating De La Hoya become vitally important.

It's more proof that too much of the ratings system is based on superficial generics, and not on actual facts and three dimensional reality.

    That's a great question.

Personally, I really don't feel like I've seen enough of Pacquiao that heavy to actually even say. De La Hoya barely even made him move around the ring, and barely hit him with punches. It's a silly situation.

    Excellent discussion thread though.

I'm alright with it. De La Hoya was a highly ranked Jr. Middleweight and since Pac just whooped his ass at welter, the ranking is justifiable. Although personally I might rank him just behind Quintana at 6th.

I think it's a solid but futile ranking as he it doesn't seem like he's going to be fighting there anytime soon. But quite frankly, if something weird happens after his Hatton fight (like maybe he loses) and is not eventually able to set up a fight with Mayweather, I wouldn't be surprised to see him strap on his familiar brass balls and challenge a guy like Zab Judah for a fight. That would be quite a decent fight in my opinion, despite the fact that Judah is very far from his prime now. It would answer some questions. Ranking him at WW is futile though because it's just going to be the last ditch place for him to make big fights.

In my opinion, his speed, power, stamina, boxing style, excellent movement, long reach, & south paw stance power punching stance give him a chance solid chance against any of those top ten WW, except Paul Williams. Williams is too active and skilled and could land a very damaging punch without even trying. Pacquiao could get out of the way of any of Margarito's punches simply by fighting him on the inside and dodging as many punches as possible, but the bottomline is that he's going to have to be able to take his some of his punches well. If he can't then that's that. Same with Cintron and Quintana but he'd be under much less pressure. The bottom line is that his skills give him a solid chance, but he would look very awkward against a very tall WW and it would make for an awkward unpredictable fight. These fights are not going to happen and if they do they won't happen consistently, but if ever he does fight a much taller opponent at WW (other than Oscar :)), I'd be extremely intrigued by the fight, and to see if Manny can pull it off and outbox him, and maybe even pull a miracle and stop him.

i think its pretty accurate. pac would beat up any of the guys ranked below him except for maaaybe berto. he might even be able to take clottey in a UD. the top three im skeptical about though...

i think pac being ranked #5 at ww is just about right. Of those above him, i believe he may have a chance against mosley. Mosley's is far from the prime fighter he once was and from what i saw in the mayorga fight, he may be retiring next year

He may well be the 5th best welterweight in the world but what has he done to prove it? Accomplishments at the weight should be a major factor when ranking fighters and beating Oscar doesn't get you into the top 5 IMHO.

It's a bogus ranking. DLH isn't even a welterweight but somehow beating him makes you a top 5 welter? Stylistaclly Collazo and Quintana would both be a nightmare for him.

I think that if Cotto beats Margarito in early summer, Pac will go after Cotto for the fall.

That would be a great fight.

I think you are underrating Collazo and Quintana. They are very good counter punchers which is just the style to give pacman trouble. Collazo in particular has shown that he is very durable. Combine that with those long arms and counterounching ability and I'd favour him over pacman.
