    Well, my point is, I tend to filter out opinions of fanboys and haters to the best of my ability, so I probably ignore most of the nonsensical threads you're referring to.

    Mutual.

    marquez isn't really a defensive master... he is just smart offensive fighter with top notch arsenal of skills and a very big heart.

    his ability to recuperate from kd's is by far his best defensive asset

    I view his recuperative powers as something entirely separate from defense.

    His defensive prowess is outstanding. His ability to deflect and slip punches is top notch, and his ability to dodge and counter is most impressive.

    Sounds like you're selling his defensive skills short.

    nope. i wasnt trying to say he has sucky defense or anything like that. i just think that his defense is top-notch beause even if he gets hit by really stong punches, he gets up quickly and bounces right back to action. this just means that even if he leaves some openings, he has the chin to back it up.

    his counter skills are superior as you have said. no arguements there

    Okay, fair enough.
    :good

    In my mind, I try and separate:
    * good defense
    * chin
    * recuperative powers

    I view them as three different parts of a fighter's game. When it comes to defense, I usually focus on one's ability to block, deflect, slip, dodge, and their ability to counter while doing so.

    JMM actually scores a Trifecta here, because he has good defense, a good chin, and good recuperative powers.

    I see your point, though.

    I guess a strap is worth that much, and clearly makes a significant difference when it's the same man in the ring. Whether you defeat a man convincinly and easily, and for the other to go life and death because it's for a strap.

    I learn something new everyday.

    It happens all the time.

    Rocky Marciano beat a 42 yr old Archie Moore and a 37 yr old Louis and an undefeated La Starza and people rank Marciano at the very top of the HW ATG list, saying they were all still damn good.

    Tyson totally obliterated an undefeated Michael Spinks, Larry Holmes and undefeated Tucker and he fought a **** weak competition.
