Fair play he fought well but the fact was made at a acatch weight should be taken into account. He won the wleterweight title by fighting at a made up weight.

He shouldnt get the full credit for that victory last night.

    Anyone else agree?

Not really. I did before the weigh in but after looking at how healthy Cotto was at the weigh in and the fact that he didn't bulk up massively before the fight tells me he was very comfortable at the weight. Full credit must go to Pacquiao IMO.

I think the WBO should kop some **** for trying to force the the belt to be on the line at 145 but Cotto agreed the deal and he made no excuses post fight.

Take this **** to the general forum garbage doesn't belong here. Cotto came in at 146 in his last fight. 1 pound and you argue that Manny doesn't deserve credit. Bull**** Manny smashed him, Cotto was in the fight but eventually was not good enough.

Cotto made the weight exceptionally well. This did surprise me. Although 2lbs under he looked fantastic and not half as gaunt when making weight for previous fights. Pac was simply too good. Cotto has never liked speed as was very evident when he fought Shane. He fights at his own pace and theres no way he could keep up with Pac. Complete domination from start to finish. Pacman had taken his will by the 3/4th rounds. Pac is a modern day Henry Armstrong. He's one of the best iv ever seen.

I'll stick by my guns and say he shouldn't be classed a welter champ

Semantics though, he won so easily and Cotto looked so good, the weight is a non-issue

He mayhave looked good at the weight but he could and probably woul have looked even better had he been allowed to fight the divisions limit. I don't think he would have beaten Pacquiao but the catch weight was made to suit Roach and Pacquiao, not Cotto- he therfore shouldn't get the ful credit.

Im a big Cotto fan but in his last 9 fights he has only weighed in at 147 3 times ... i think, with 146 being the most common weight for him, although i agree when the 147 belt is o the line he should be able to weigh in what ever he wishes, but anyway we witnessed an all time great last night!!

Cotto was probably 150 when he climbed through the ropes last night so the weight isn`t an issue he was beaten by a far better fighter.

Pzc looked good last night but Cotto did tire much easier than he has in the past.

Thing is though, if its only 2lbs and isnt supposed to have made a difference then why ask for it in the 1st place?

Im gonne stick by my original thought that PBF would make light work of Manny.

FULL credit to Pac for the win but if the fight wasn't made at 147 then its not a welterweight title fight. Full stop.

Yes, he made history. And no, the catchweight has **** to do with anything. They weighed in under 147lbs and above 140lbs, thats a welterweight fight that can be sanctioned as such for the title.

As a point of reference Cotto chose to weigh 146lbs against Clottey so the fact he's had to shed a whole lb more for this fight is not really a good excuse baring in mind how the fight went. For 4 rounds Cotto looked fantastic, but he couldn't live with Pacquiao.

Gaz the welterweight limit is 147 that means that neither fighter can come in above that weight on weigh in day.

Cotto weighed in at 145 and Pac weighed in at 144 both were within the welter limit and above the jnr welter this was a genuine bonefide welterweight fight.

Are you suggesting that they should have made a new belt for the fight?

The WBO super junior welterweight champion?

Cotto and his camp were well happy as Cotto made the weight easy and has only been on the limit 3 times since he went up to welter. As I said previous Cotto probably came into the ring at 150 about the same weight Hatton came in when he got smashed all over the ring by Pac who was probably 10 pounds lighter.

For it to be a welterweight title fight both fighters should have the option to weight in at 147. I'm not suggesting they should make a new belt, just that its not a 147lb title fight unless both fighters are able to weigh in at 147 if they so wish.
