It does seem as Mayweather sells more PPVs . These PPV #s are not a reflection of a fan base, I think? I watch Mayweather fight on the hope he gets that big ass mouth shut. I watch Paq. fight because he is relentless in the ring. He alwayse brings it. Both fighters are a huge draw in sales, but have got there in a different way. Mayweather plays a good villian. People dislike him for his ego, and watch his fights in hope for a loss.( not all people ,he does have a large fan base) He has made a pile of money this way. Paq.s style and move up through the weight classes has increased his popularity. The only thing keeping Manny from taking over the top spot is a fight with Mayweather. I use to think Mayweather would win a fight between the two, but now I think Mayweather gets beat in a very rough fight. If this happens I don't think the numbers would be close.
Source fuccas ,so how come they get free fights why we pay pac wages ,your not making any sense and if this is the case I WILL NEVER BUY A PPV He's on ,COULD BE THE REASON WHY FLOYD Doesn't WANT TO FIGHT HIM ITS ALL ABOUT BUSINESS.
You seem a little clueless, it's kinda suprising you can handle the mechanics of buying a PPV in the first place. Seriously, different countries have different broadcasting models, look into it. US has lots of boxing on PPV and subscription channels and comparatively low audiences, which have fallen drastically over recent years (if you look away from the headline PPVs and look at PPVs not involving Pacquiao or Mayweather and the figures for HBO BAD, ESPN, Shobox, etc the numbers are scarily bad). Germany has much bigger boxing audiences than US, on free to air national tv and no PPV. UK has mostly boxing on subscription tv but an increasing PPV model. The big American fights tend to be 'free' on Sky Sports however, we don't pay for Mayweather or Pacquiao, we pay for Hatton, Haye, Khan, Froch, Mitchell: ie the fights that can sell beyond the hardcore boxing fan (or that the promoter is too inept to sell to a proper channel, in Froch's case). Biggest audience figures for boxing on Sky are for the Prizefighter series.
mayweather/marquez - 1m vs. pacquiao/margarito - 1.15m very recent fights. both pac and floyd fought mexicans (non-americans) here.
Also: 1)The guy Floyd fought was P4P # 2, Margarito nowhere in the top 10. 2)Marquez was not disgraced and banned from the sport for a year. 3)That was Floyd's "coming out of retirement" fight. And still Pac's numbers surpassed his.
Are you ****ing ******ed? You are TALKING TO US WHO ARE ACTUALLY HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES YOU DIM WITTED ****! We are telling you that's how it goes here. Either people will stream media from the internet (which has lots of good 3rd party app streaming btw) or we wait it out for the local network(s) to show it FOR FREE, but as another poster pointed out, IT'S LOADED WITH 8-minute ads in between rounds (local networks). Not only that, local politicians actually buy rights to show Pac's fights on village clubhouses (or open basketball courts), again FOR FREE. Or you can watch the fight live on local cinemas for roughly 10USD (breakfast included). You get to pay for it because you probably live in a first world country. Your salary for a month, when converted to the local currency can feed a family of eight for an entire year here. This is why we keep on telling EVERYONE here at ESB that if every Filipino gets to buy Pac's fight, believe me, even ODLH and Floyd combined will be nothing. You just got to see how the most crowded streets of the cities of the country suddenly turn quiet when Pac fights. EVERYONE here watches his fights. EVERYONE. Stupid dumb poster.
Nice spin. But unfortunately that is far from the truth. Pac V margo according to HBO was the most watched 24/7 series ever. Pac was also on 60mins. Pac was going for another title at another weight class. Floyd fighting marquez was seen as a mismatch yet still did 1.05 mil. Fact is mayweather averages better ppv sales than pac and generates more money. There is no denying this, since oscar left mayweather is the ppv star, which is remarkable considering his defensive style.
What more is there to say? What you wrote really says it all about drawing power. Facts are FACTS, right? FACT is Pac outdrew Floyd against a lesser Mexican opponent than Marquez. FACT is 60 mins did an article on a boxer for the first time in years, and it wasn't Floyd. FACT is (according to you) this 24/7 was the most watched, not the ones with FLOYD. Those are FACTS. Not spin.
And yet it got out sold by mayweather V mosley and it also narrowly beat mayweather v marquez which was how long ago? Fact is even with all those people watching 24/7 series and watching 60mins pac still failed the surpass mayweather numbers.
Mayweather Marquez was a little over a year ago... we're not exactly talking the turn of the century here. Sadly, mayweather couldn't even outdraw Pac in his OWN country for that fight.
Well.....the FINAL PPV#'s are not in yet...these are the preliminary numbers which are VERY Strong considering these are NOT 2 US BORN fighters. These are two foriegn fighters one of which is NOT popular in the US especially following his very damaging hand wrap scandal. PAC basically carried the PPV numbers on his own and was actually working against the grain due to those who were trying to BOYCOTT the fight. Fact is.....Shane and Floyd are 2 US fighters with strong a strong US fan base. Floyd moreso than Shane, but Shane like Cotto and the Tito's of the boxing world do very good numbers in their own right. The simple fact that Floyd is neck and neck in US PPV buys with a man who is not of US decent only speaks to the fact that PAC is truly a phenom in terms of his drawing power on a GLOBAL scale. Floyd should NOT logcially have PAC on his heels with regards to generating massive PPV#'s......it would be more logical that anther US fighter would be his competition or even a Mexican or PR fighter playing second fiddle being that those are neigboring countries, but that's not the case.
come on...JMM/Floyd had no angle to sell, wasnt a tittle fight, and was just a tune-up, and from what the community was saying the fight was a farce...still did a MILL Margo/Pac on the other hand had the aura of a tittle fight, a record on the line, not to mention the whole David/Goliath angle, 60 min, 24/7, OH and lets not forget it was in the new Dallas Stadium which has some draw power itself...1.15 i'd say Floyd still clearly is the bigger draw but Pac's closing in fast
