In many ways to me, the two fights were very similar.

You have two dynamic athletes in Pacquiao and Jones, both of whom have dominated on their explosive speed and unorthodox styles. Both of whom, in a way look indestructible at a particular point in time.

They come up against a fighter that takes them to deep waters, a fighter that seems to be the perfect foil for their athleticism and dynamism. The scorecards from their fights are hotly contested and the rematch is demanded. Most people are expecting another close bout.

In the rematch, both Jones and Pacquiao out of the gate look much better against their rival than they did in the previous outing: There's a fire there that wasn't seen in the previous bout.

Then, seemingly of out of left field, the KO punch comes in shocking fashion. I had Marquez by victory in this fight, and received a nice bump in vcash (really regretting not putting some real $ on it), but in no way was I expecting to see Marquez hit a home run like that. Totally shocking, and eerily similar to me to how Jones vs Tarver II went down.

True. I wonder what the odds were on a Marquez KO?

I had this exact same thought earlier. Jones never recovered from that shot, and became gunshy - I hope the same thing doesn't happen to Pacquiao, he still has one or two good performances left in him

Don't forget though, Pacquiao has been KO'd before, Jones hadn't. Pacquaio's Chin is now cracked beyond repair. And as we all know - once they crack, the don't come back.:deal

Once they crack they indeed don't come back, these type of concussive KO's shatter punch resistance as proven by Jones amongst others.

Aye, I remember, once Gene Fullmer got obliterated against SRR, he was never even competitive with anyone good again and got continuously knocked out by every rated fighter he fought with half a punch, Enzo Mac style. When that chin goes, it's gone.

Not a regular KO, I honestly don't think the Tarver KO shattered Jones's punch resistance but the Johnson one sure did as it had him out cold just like Pacquiao last night...out cold. Robinson caught Fullmer with a nicely timed left hook that hurt Fullmer but he didn't hit him with a bludgeoning power shot.

Jones won the first fight pretty clearly, but because Tarver wasn't thoroughly outclassed, everyone wanted a rematch. Pac has been life and death with him 3 times before and it looked that way again before the KO.

We'll have to see how Manny recovers, but that was a shockingly brutal KO. He needs to take some serious time off to see if he still wants to do this.

Ill get a jar of honey and a bag of flour for you.

See the state of Joe last night, dressed up like he was an 18 year old interloper.

I disagree. Roy screwed himself but dropping back down from Heavyweight to LHW. That was too much muscle to lose. We saw the same thing happen with Chris Byrd.

Manny didn't get taken into deep waters, he just got timed and put to bed by his daddy.
