Ok, I know my thread might get merged but it's worth a shot. I've been watching the throne for the better part of 5 years now. Floyd Mayweather retired in 2007 as the undefeated welterweight champion of the world. He wasn't just a 'titleholder', he was 'the man'. The lineal legit welterweight champion, as well as the P4P king. We all know that Manny Pacquiao has filled the shoes of the P4P king since then. Granted we know the business with the P4P situation and all of the players involved. There's been a ton of speculation on who's victory over common opponents was more impressive or entertaining. Many are bound to their side of the equation never to waiver or bend even slightly. My point is not to get into semantics. My point is about championships. In boxing, aside from money, power, and respect the only other thing that matters is championships. In 2009 Manny Pacquiao defeated Miguel Cotto by way of TKO in the 12th for his WBO welterweight title. I'm not going to get into the history of the title, or whether or not it can be viewed as a paper title, I'm just going to say that Pacquiao won the title. He won the title by way of a catchweight. My man Floyd Mayweather just defeated Cotto for the WBA Super Welterweight Super Championship from the same fighter at the weight in which a championship is supposed to be won, which is 154lbs for a 154lbs title. With that said, Mayweather dethroned the #1 Super Welterweight/Jr. Middleweight Champion making him the lineal Champion at 154. While Floyd didn't stop Cotto, he beat a much more determined Cotto than Pacquiao fought. Mayweather's championship win over Cotto is more meaningful than Manny's championship win over Cotto. It was tainted by catchweights and PEDs. On to the other topic at hand. Mr. Freddie Roach has a wealth of boxing knowledge and one can't discredit his prowess as a world class trainer. However (you knew that was coming), he tends to run his mouth and when he speaks he seems to contradict what he knows as a world class trainer. He said that he would make Manny agree to fight right handed if it would get Floyd in the ring with Pacquiao. He needs to remember that Floyd just beat a southpaw for a welterweight title easier than Manny beat a conventional counterpuncher to defend his catchweight title (won the title at a catchweight and defended it against JMM at a catchweight). Floyd will scrape Manny Pacquiao all night long and the fight would play out no different than Floyd's last 43. You know, with Floyd's hand being raised at the end. In closing, I'd like to say that Freddie Roach damned near had one of his fighters facing someone who was using PEDs. All the more reason for Mr. Pacquiao to get on board with the random testing. Pac's last opponent had a S&C coach with a background in PED dealing and he couldn't ask for testing without looking like a hypocrite. The whole world wants Manny and Floyd to duke it out and all it would've took was random testing and Pac would've gotten the 50/50 that he wants now, in March of 2010. Mayweather is a true champion. Manny is a true champion as well but after the 1 fight at 135 and the 1 fight at 140lbs, he falls into a category that would make real boxing fans question how legit he is. Now ESB can merge my thread if they feel it's redundant but I said what I needed to say. Thoughts???
Floyd is not the linial champ at JMW, and Pacquiao's win over Cotto is not tainted by PEDs. Everything else is pretty good.
