If they are walking away from multiple millions on the basis of technicalities, it's farce and nothing more.
Maybe it's pride, Manny is looking for a life in politics after boxing, I'm guessing that Floyd's demands with blood testing have erked Pacman. I doubt that if Pacman man did get tested and came out clean that Floyd would come out and say he was wrong.
I am very, very suspicious of Manny, but I understand his rationale completely. Before Morales I they lost his blood tests and he was forced to give samples closer to the fight than usual (I don't remember how long exactly). After the fight he complained that he had been weaker and Morales confirmed that Manny had no sting in his punches. It makes sense to me that on the cusp of the biggest fight of his career he would have reservations about repeating something that had a (whether phantom or actual) handicap. Particularly with the way the situation has played out now in that if he takes the test, passes it but then loses to Mayweather people will say that he has been juicing in all of his other fights and the tests are why he finally lost now. I also think that something that has gone awry here is that Manny would take the tests less than 14 days before the fight if that is what the commission demanded of him. I may have misunderstood when this has been mentioned but I'm pretty sure it's true. At the moment he is refusing to the 14 day thing because it is not compulsory it is Floyd Mayweather's fancy. And that too is understandable.
But is it not nice that fighter can do that, that he does not need the money that bad? Surely that is good for Manny and Little Floyd?
What you are talking about are unrealistic dream scenarios, I am sure we all have. The reality, the matches that could happen, generally do, and seemingly more than ever.
Good for them, bad for the sport. Yeah realistic matches like Jones-Hopkins II that everyone wanted to see (10 years ago) are actually happening now. The sport is in a healthy state :good
Thats all well & good but FM is as good as 33, MP is 31 & 99% of fighters dont age like Hopkins, both guys came off 2 of the best performances of their careers (regardless of circumstances in those fights), even if they dont lose before they face each other, they still might have slipped a bit by the time they fight (one or both men) & they had captured the imagination of the casual fan for this march date - it will be near impossible to do this again after all this drama. Im sorry but no matter which angle I try to see this from in a positive light, I just cant, its one big disaster that shouldnt have happened & WOULD NOT be tolerated in ANY other sport. You can pay for below standard fights if you want but IMO your only giving these guys the ammunition to continue ****ing us over, Im not doing that, they have hurt the sport with their bull****.
Stay positive; remember Hagler/Leonard: It was five years too late, but still went down as one of the biggest most talked about fights of all-time, even today there is debate about it. Leonard/HearnsII took seven years to make, but was a thrill when it happened. Ali/FrazierI happened four years later than it should of, but still went down in history.
Probably the two best fighters in the sport, do deserve an awful lot if they are to fight each other, and that is probably going to take a lot time and discussion. Jones/HopkinsII still to this day has curiosity value, I would buy it, even if it is 16 years in the making!
When I look back and see some of the great ones without even a penny to their names, having to do pro wrestling and greet at Vegas just to live; I can smile that the sport has progressed so the better ones today can turn down Millions, because the fight does not suit.
And what are the most common complaints about those fights ? None of them were prime vs prime. This FM-MP situation is so rare in boxing, a once in a lifetime chance that the top 2 p4pers are in their PRIMES & in the same weight.... we are missing a chance to witness something very historic & thats what is killing me. The longer we wait, the more the prime v prime thing disappears.... this was supposed to be a no excuses p4p battle & its being chucked down the toilet for childish reasons.
I see where you are coming from. But hindsight dictates what is prime verses prime, not foresight. If the fight does happen in March who ever loses, the fans of that fighter will point to inactivity or massive weight gain to show that their fighter was not at their best, and that if they had met their opponent a couple of years ago/at a few pounds lighter, the result would be different.
But that would just sour grapes from the pacfucs, nobody listens to them anyway, there will always be a minority that makes excuses when there are none but the majority get the final say & any reasonable person knows that now is the best time for this fight. Ps. What happens if Clottey KO`s MP & Mosely all of a sudden looks old overnight & loses to Berto ? Its gonna be a treasure hunt trying to find the next big mega-fight, these chances rarely happen in boxing, we must take them. Believe me, you might not agree now (& I really hope YOU are right for boxings sake) but the longer this fight takes to get done, I think the more we miss out in terms of quality & truth.
If Manny and Lil Floyd do lose, I think we will all be glad we saved ourselves at least 15 quid. Super fights happen and some do not. It could be argued the 90s missed out on the biggest fight the era could make (Lewis/Bowe), but boxing staggered on still producing superb fighters and fights. No two fighters, know matter how good they are, are bigger than the game, and if Mayweather Jr/Pacquiao does not happen, we will get over it and still be fans of the greatest sport in history.
