Look who's talking. Your the sour grape here. What's Floyd's excuse not making the fight. Hell he's got physical advantages and more technically sound, why can't he just make the fight then? Coz Pac is juicing? Before FMSr. made that BS nobody was talking about juicing, just how Floyd was gonna school Pac. And if Pac get's KO'ed and Mosley declines, then tough luck for floyd. The bus has left him, but he's not concern with legacy anyway, only money.
You only have to look at which one walked away & signed to fight a much lesser fighter as quick as a flash. Both are to blame here but MP should never ever have walked away from this fight.... that is living PROOF that he wanted the fight much less than FM. The fact that most neutrals side with FM despite the dislike they have for him tells you everything you need to now.
MP has an elections coming in May. Can't wait for FMJ to make up his mind. Pac's not the type to miss making money, he's greedy and he can't afford to lose the 3/13 date. The way i see it you take it hard on Manny since Floyd missed his chance to get ATG points by Pac. Tough luck on him he better pray Pac wins over Clottey else his chance for redemption is getting slim.
The blame surely must be laid at the feet of Mayweather. When talks started, I started checking the net every day because I KNEW that Floyd would have a get-out clause up his sleeve that he could use to fool his fans into thinking it was Pac who was backing out. I expected it to be a 60-40 split or some other financial thing he would conjure up, but instead it was this transparent and laughable drug testing issue. If I was a fighter and another fighter tried to impose something on me, I'd tell him to **** right off immediately. The rules should the same for all fights and all fighters at all times. It is not the place of anyone to impose conditions on anyone else, that's the job of a sanctioning body. As Larry Merchant said, if Floyd is so confident he could embarrass and dominate the current version of Pacquiao who he believes is juicing, then why would he even want Pac to get caught? If Pac is juicing and avoids detection, Floyd whips him, picks up $40m, and goes down in the history books of the best fighter of the era. If Pac is juicing and is caught by Mayweather's imposed drug tests, Floyd gets zero dollars and zero else. So if Floyd is so confident he could beat the current version of Pacquiao, why would he want him to get caught?? It was a get-out clause. And judging by some of the posts on this thread, it has to a large extent worked. You can fool some of the people all of the time...
Just a brilliant, brilliant post. Calls the matter exactly right. Bravo at cutting through the Mayweather propaganda machine's never-ending bull****. :happy
The way I see it, I agree with this. Floyd is the man who has never really fought anyone with a brilliant chance of beating him. Now that man has come around, I'm not surprised he's looking for a way out. In 20 years time he will not be thought of as a top 50 all-time fighter. He needs Pac moer than Pac needs him. What is Pac doing? Fighting a big, strong Welter, very durable with a high guard. Bad workrate, but hey, good fight nonetheless. Floyd might be fighting a man who had only fight at 140, a NC on paper but a fight he was well on the way to losing. Also, the man was previously campaigning at 130. This is a joke fight (I'm referring to Campbell) although I'm willing to change my tune if Floyd trumps Pac with a better fight than Clottey, i.e winner of Berto/Mosley or Paul Williams. Although I'm willing to bet that he won't and will go for a smaller guy, and still probably come in over the Welter limit. And for all of Floyd's 'skill', I don't see his defence as impenetrable until he fights someone who can truly test him. Pac has the speed, workrate, power, stamina, to test Floyd. I would basically give Floyd a free pass for missing the likes of Tszyu and Mosley if he were to beat Pac because it would prove he can deal with top fighters. Until then, his faultless performances and weight jumping need to be put into perspective IMO.
A lesser fighter? Clottey is certainly a more testing fight than Campbell/Paulie/whichever small guy Floyd ends up fighting. And most neutrals are not siding with Pac. Most people in the know are aware that Pac is the man who has taken the better challenges and Floyd is the man with a history of fighting the lesser opponents in a division.
So it was the sanctioning bodies that imposed the $10 million dollar per pound over the limit fine that Mayweather agreed to without hesitation?
Who is to blame -- I think ultimately this is all still gamesmanship. Personally, I believe many boxers use illegal substances to support their performance. I think in the inner circle of boxers this is widely known. Fighters moving up, especially -- Holyfield, Roy Jones, Manny Pac -- can negate the disadvantage they have in a higher weightclass somewhat by using. I think it was Floyds goal to get Pacquiao into the ring completely clean -- which would diminish his performance as a welterweight severely. I think it was Pacquiao's goal to use illegal substances like he has before and try and win. Who is in the wrong here? I don't know. In many sports there is some kind of a hush-hush culture protected by mutual fear -- I believe we saw some evidence of that when Mosley did not judge Margarito's cheating after their match -- and Mayweather might have sprung something even innocent parties believe can damage the sport. If you look at cycling, which is marred with scandals involving banned substances, it is hardly credible anymore and there's consequently a lot less money being made. The problem here, though, lies with Pacquiao. It is not that he is on performance-enhancers, but that he seems unwilling to fight without or has used such a substance that it would be detectable even were he to quit now. I do not have a problem with Pacquiao using these to move up, as I didn't with Evander Holyfield, as I feel they level the playing field between them and the rest of the naturally heavier division, and it makes for great fights. Historically, though, Pac's performances should be marred with an asterisk, nonetheless spectacular though they are. Perhaps the fight is already made, but will take place at a later date, when Pac's blood is sufficiently clean to withstand testing. I believe that in the interest of his legacy and the money involved that team Pacquiao will want to both make it through a doping-test at least once and fight Mayweather after that -- or else it'll be the pink elephant in the room whenever the Fillipino superstar is discussed. I consider this fight postponed, personally. (this is all based on nothing but personal conjecture and theorycrafting)
Possibly. Floyd's a puss, we all know that already. He's no great. In fact he's destined to be one of the most overrated cherry-pickers of all time. Be that as it may, if Pacquiao had just taken the damn test instead of backing out due to pride, or God forbid something else if you get my drift, Floyd would have nowhere to turn. Had he continued to make excuses after that his motives would've been totally obvious to everyone. Regardless, Pacquiao is just as much to blame for the fact that he refused to go through with it. Is it really worth turning down a $40 million payday for a pride issue, or was it something else that was holding Pacquiao back? Either way, the blame is on him just as much as Floyd, if not moreso for not conclusively shutting Floyd up if he actually wasn't guilty.
This says it all, **** this politics ****, he`s a fighter or he isnt, Im done with the little phony as well as that ***** FM. Anyone even trying to defend these 2 pricks must love to be shat on, thats all I can say. They knew how important this fight was for the sport that made them rich, ye know, the sport that we are supposed to be a fan of & they showed their selfishness by embarrassing the sport & themselves worldwide. Be a mug if you want but neither will ever get my respect again & I know for a fact I wont be alone in that way of thinking.
