Some would be rematches or even a third fight, but when you look at the field, would Pac or Floyd stand to generate significantly more money than the other one vs the possible options out there? Margarito, Clottey, Marquez, Bradley, Angulo, Cintron, Williams, Alexander, Meidana, Judah, Cotto, Mosley, Marquez, Mathew Hatton, S Alvarez, S Martinez, Y Foreman, Judah, Martirosyan, Khan, C Spinks, S Powell, Guzman, Berto, Alvarado, Victor Ortiz, James Kirkland When you look at all those names and any others you can think of and think of Floyd and Pac matched against them, does one man, either Floyd or Pac stand to generate significantly more money than the other vs those opponents? Does one fighter have better options than the other? Can one man make close than the other vs what they would lose from not facing each other?
Well if the Mayweather/Pac fight falls through due to Floyd wanting more than half, I suspect a massive boycott on his future fights. Pac will come out of the fiasco much better than Mayweather would and rightly so. It will hurt Floyd way more than Pac to the point that Pac will be the bigger draw. If I remember the poll correctly, about 80% would blame whoever asks for more than 50/50 for this fight falling through on ESB. That would be 80% pissed off hard core fans. Serious damage will be done.
- The difference in revenue would not be significant - May's fight revenues would outpace Pac's marginally I think these are probably the two most accurate answers. Mayweather has a slight history edge, but Pac is blowing up in epic proportions recently. Neither man out-draws the other in the near future significantly.
Pac can make 15 million dollar fights right now.Meanwhile Floyd can make 40 million again if he fights Sergio Martinez. So don't say Floyd can't make the money elsewhere that he can make fighting pacq.Floyd just came off of his biggest payday and versus a black fighter, two black guys doesn't really make for big ppv right now,so 1.4million versus mosley means there's more out there for Floyd right now.The Pac fight only makes financial sense if he makes more than 40 million and right now they want him to make roughly the same he made versus mosley but bring pacq up to 40 million and that's not gonna happen. So Floyd has more big money options because his fight with Sergio Martinez will be the biggest other fight out there for him and will bring him around 40 million like the mosley fight while pacq could make another 15 million if he fights Cotto again or a little less if he fights Margarito. So Floyd has the ball in his court all day.Furthermore if the fight isn't made it would be interesting to see if Mayweather does a head to head ppv matchup with Pacq where he would probably win.Though that would be bad for boxing.
Mayweather did not make 40 million against Mosley. I read that he was guaranteed 22.5M dollars with a piece of the PPV pie if the fight does over 1.2M buys. A quick rule of 3 indicates that at 1.4 he would have made about 26.25M Pacquiao against Cotto was guaranteed 12M with a piece of the PPV pie above 700K. The fight did 1.25M which indicates 21.5M $ after PPV So, not that different.
Depends how well the fights are promoted, etc. Mayweather's a good con-artist so he might draw a little more then Pac, but not by much against those opponents.
Mayweather guaranteed 22 million,Pacq guaranteed 12 million?:shock:Based off of that alone 50/50 is proposterous.Pacq is gettin raped big time.
There are various reports confirming that mayweather made well over 30 million for his fight with mosley.
Mayweather made around $40 million for the Mosley fight. Pacquiao is a bigger attraction than Mosley, so he’ll demand, and require, a more substantial cut of the revenue. Mayweather was guaranteed $22.5 million, so if he wound up making an even $40 million for the Mosley bout, he landed an additional $17.5 million in pay-per-view money. HBO Pay-Per-View announced that the bout generated $78.3 million in pay-per-view revenue. So cut that in half, because the cable and satellite companies generally take 50 percent off the top, and now you’re working with $39.15 million to divvy up on the boxing side. Subtract Mayweather’s $17.5 million from the $39.15 million and there is $21.5 million left. Expenses have to be paid out of that. Mosley, HBO and Golden Boy have to get their cuts out of that. Of course, there are plenty of other revenue streams: Site fee, merchandise sales, foreign broadcast rights, replay rights, closed circuit, etc. But a potential Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would have to do far, far better than the Mayweather-Mosley fight did in order to make it financially feasible. Count on the pay-per-view price rising from the $54.95 it was for Mayweather-Mosley (The $10 surgcharge for the high definition broadcast goes directly to the cable or satellite companies) to $59.95 or even $64.95. Hopefully, Arum, Schaefer, Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz, Mayweather advisor Al Haymon and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe can work out a deal to make it happen.
Before, definitely Floyd. Now, Manny marginally. Though, it can change on different opponents because of history.
Nothing has changed except Manny has lost "some" black support outside of Cali and is possibly a dirty fighter in an American culture where that is running rampant. If Mayweather fights S.Martinez he makes 40 million again. There is no fight for manny where he makes 40 million.Floyd is a villain and is still the cash cow.He doesn't need love to have huge ppv's,just "boxing" fans and his haters.
