Pac to defend The Ring LWW title in summer, fight PBF-Shane winner in the Fall?

From The Ring magazine April 2010 edition:

"Manny Pacquiao has requested that he remain THE RING Junior-Welterweight champion because he intends to defend the title following his March 13 bout with Joshua Clottey, his second consecutive fight at welterweight. THE RING has honored Pacquiao's request, but has informed him that if he does not defend 140-pound title in his next fight, THE RING will consider it tantamount to relinquishing the belt and vacate the title."

To be honest, it would make sense for Pac. Neither Floyd nor Shane are exactly busy when it comes to making fights, I don't believe either of them would want to get back in the ring after May 1st til at least about October or November.

Pac won't want to go from March til then without a fight, so it looks likely judging from this excerpt from The Ring that he intends to go back down to 140 for a title defence.

I think it's a great idea, there are some cracking fighters in that division, and I'd love to see Pac at 140 again because he looked so, so explosive there vs Hatton. It's obvious Pac isn't a fully-sized welter, but he does seem to have grown into a solid 140 fighter, because he rehydrates to around 148 on fightnight - which is extremely light for a welter but a good weight for a junior-welter.

The best fighters in the division are probably Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander, so either of them would make a great opponent.

Pac has scores to settle with Nate Campbell (public criticism of Pac) and Juan Manuel Marquez, so those two would be possibilities as well.

Though for a thriller of a fight, the best option may be Marcos Maidana, or if Edwin Valero was invited up.

My personal choice would be Bradley, I think he's an excellent fighter and would give Pac a good test.

    So, good idea or not?

And vote for who you would like to see him fight at 140 :good

Im thinking Pac is way too much for anyone at 140 at this point. Bradley would have the best chance, but would eventually be ko'd. Valero Pac would be a 2-3 round war, with Valero inevitably being stretched. Campbell simply doesnt stand a chance

I voted Valero but Bradley's cool too. Both would be good fights.

Alexander. Definatley deserves a shot at the ring title after becoming the WBC and IBF champ

When would be the earliest pac could get back in the ring, this election its not till may is it and if he wins he aint going straight into training, i can't see him back in the ring much earlier than augest and that would leave it difficult for a mayweather/mosely fight before december.

To answer the question though, if he does bradley would be a great fight

Valero is another top rank fighter and that puts him in the lead but i would like to see him against Bradley who's considered the top man at 140 and he deserves a shot at Pac,also a fight with Bradley would shut down the black supremacists that post on this site that say Pac is afraid of african americans.

I don't want to see anything from Pac at this point except Mosley or Mayweather. Although dropping down to 140 to milk the cash-cow one more time would be a typical Arum move.

Amir Khan! Lol jp, a fight against Bradley would be interesting, but I agree with some of the above posters, Pac would be too much for anyone at 140.

Btw didn't Alex Ariza say Pac is gonna take 6 months off to let his body heal after the back to back 12 rounders...plus the elections?

Would love to see him at 140 again.... It would seem to be his best weight currently and we would get the best version of Pac at this time.... 147 is great and he's chasing all time legends by doing it, but at 140 his pop would so much more devastating.... Not to mention that these guys punches are gonna be easier for Pac to absorb, and with Pacs take one to give one style it makes much more sense...If I was him I'd stay at 140 and only come to 147 for Mayweather/Mosley fight..

    This would be fantastic.

Pacquiao stays busy, defends his title and gets to fight at a weight which seems to be perfect for him.

Any one of Bradley, Alexander, JMM and even Valero would be fine by me. The fairest thing would be to fight Bradley since he is the #1 fighter in the division though.
