Because he had not beaten Clottey at that time, unlike Marquez whom he had beaten twice.

    he isnt ducking!!

manny would take the fight for a guranteed purse. if marquez has such a big fanbase then GBP wouldnt have a problem promoting the fight because they would make a ton of money, but manny doesnt think he can rake in the PPV's so his conditions are ''GBP pay him guranteed purse, not based on what PPV's are sold, and marquez and GBP takes the rest... then the fights on!!! Perfectly reasonable negotiating!!

for instance, manny made 1.2 million PPVs against marg so he would ask for money worth about 800-900,000ppvs. if the fight only sells 700,000ppvs then manny still gets paid for the 800-900,000. hes the bigger draw so hes securing his right to what hes worth!!!

It has nothing to do with drug testing. Texas offered Arum the 2 perfect factors - no income tax and Jerry Jones guarantee fee which he announced publicly. Jerry Jones announcing it publicly was a clear sign that he wanted he PR for the Dallas Stadium. He NEEDED the PR. Dallas Stadium is a $1.3 Billion investment. Being in ARLINGTON, a suburb of Dallas it does not have the location amenities of other venues like MSG, MGM or Staples Center. So Jones was trying to combat that public view in order to attract new events for additional revenue streams in order to pay off his $1.3 billion investment.

With the guarantee from Jones it made using no draw boxers like Clottey and Margo from TR's own stable that more attractive. It relieves the pressure from getting a large live gate that normally you would need to hold an event in places like MGM. MGM has a minimum or you pay host site fees (location, security, insurance, etc). This is where the $4.8 million comes in. This is what GBP had to pay MGM because they could not attract enough raw buyers (buyers with no additional amenities like limo and rooms).

People may not know this, but amenities like those are often a cost because even MGM's main revenue stream is NOT the event or people eating in the restaurants or staying in the hotel, but gambling. This is why hotel rooms, food, drinks and event tickets are all 'comped' by the hotel as long as you gamble away.

So TR did not want to be in the same position as GBP with Marquez, especially with no draw Clottey and Margo. Or at least Arum did not have enough confidence that Pac + nobody is enough for MGM. ODLH could because he attracted females. A third to more than half of some of ODLHs ticket buyers where females - going in groups or with their husbands/BFs. They could care less who was ODLH was fighting. They came there to see Oscar and Oscar alone. You could match up Oscar with a convicted ****** during his peak and he would still sell out MGM. That was unusual for boxing.

That brings us to Dallas. Not only Arum dodges the risk of Pac + no name. He swings it 180 degrees - guaranteed $$ from Jones instead.

That is why those 2 fights happened in Dallas. The no income tax guaranteed that Pac would accept it.

Pac is the bigger draw. Without Floyd, Marquez can't make 1M PPVs.

    Exactly, this.

It's funny how Pac and Arum say for the fight to happen Marquez and GBP must offer a garaunteed purse and take the entire promotion on and it's costs. Then that snake DLH says instead GBP will step aside and let Top Rank promote it, saying he just has the interests of his fighter in mind. Yeah right.

If they believe in the fight so much and that it will do well, as they say they do, then they should have no qualms in being able to sell it and immediately jump on Arum's offer. Fact is, as they learned from the Mayweather bout, they will risk lose money with the extent of promotion needed for the fight to do well and with the money Manny now commands.

This fight won't happen unless Oscar stops loving money and is willing to risk losing a lot of it in order for Marquez to get a long overdue beating.

You're only worth what people are willing to pay. If the fight only sells 700k PPV then your not worth 800-900k PPV.
