This is a crazy fight for Pacquaio to take. To me Clottey is close to even money in this fight. He is a big, strong, tough welterweight and is going to make this a war for Pacquaio. Then throw in the fact that Clottey isn't exactly an elite name and this is just a bad choice of opponents for Pacquaio. I'd be surprised and impressed if Pacquaio took this fight.
I will say this, anyone knocking Clottey is a moron. This guy is super tough, and a very dodged WW. Mayweather has to respond in spectacular fashion in order to preserve his reputation. If he goes on to fight Gomez/Malignaggi/hatton, he is going to be the laughing stock of boxing.
Clottey, you are talking about Josh Clottey right? The guy is big and strong I'll give you that. But tight defense, quick hands, combination puncher...:think Not from what I've seen of him.
The best thing you can say about Clottey is that's he tough. Tough ain't enough. To beat Manny you need to be a good combination puncher, you need to be an excellent counter puncher, you need to have good feet and movement in general. You need to be quick, and have good stamina so you can fight a busy fight for the full 12x3 - Clottey has NONE of these things, the guy is slow, cumbersome, easy to hit, doesn't throw punches in bunches, has stamina issues and can't counter punch for ****. His KO ratio is pretty low as well. Don't get me wrong, Clottey is a game fighter, good entertainment, and as you say, tough. But he is several levels below Manny Pacquaio.
It is a good fight not a great fight. It shows once again that Pac is willing to face tough opposition. Good move by the Pac camp, because the whole PBF- Pac negotiations fiasco will be forgotten if Pac beats Clottey convincingly. So, who will Floyd face ?:think
I think his defence is pretty tight actually. Uses a shell defence that has worked pretty well for him - keeps his hands very high and chin low. Great left jab/hook on him.. but i agree, not a combination puncher.
In comparison to Cotto, Clottey is at least as good, if not better, in each of these categories... He throws beter combos. He has a much better defense. He has just as good speed, and is not cumbersome by any stretch. I don't know what fights you've been watching, but you might want to take a second look before dismissing Clottey so easily. Especially if he is fighting at 147, and not weightdrained. He is only several level below Pac in a P4P, and accomplishment sense. But fight night that **** goes out the window. At 147 (not 145) Clottey will be Pac's toughest challenge yet.
id actually favor clottey in this fight, hes tough as **** and i dont think pac will be able to hurt him. hes also a big strong guy and i think pac might wilt under pressure late. i see a big upset if this fight goes through
Well it's better than facing Matthew Hatton haha. Clottey beat Cotto imo. I reckon he'll be a harder challenge than Cotto. Cotto just wanted to ride out the storm and try to pull it the distance. My verdict: Pacquaio by UD or late TKO.
You make it seem like he should've killed Cotto. If he's better at all those areas why didn't he? His combos are lacking, his speed is decent. He's big and strong with a great defense. That's is all when compared to Cotto.
