DH gave Floyd a very tough fight, that not enough for you. It means nothing though, he had declined a lot in the Pac fight. Idem with Mosley, the guy was exhausted after a few rounds, threw about 30 punches a round, is that a "real test" for someone of the caliber of Floyd?!!

    Let's not overrate these victories.

I agree. They were good performances and supposed to be tough challenges, therefore some credit needs to be given. But let's not overrate these victories as a lot of folks here tend to do because the real knowledgable boxing knows what went down.

horrible comparison. DLH was past it and off for 2 years. Mosley just finished Koing the WW king. You do the math.

I understand though that Mosley was rated high in the leadup to the fight and came off a dominating victory, so it's harder to underrate that victory; but anyone who's seen Mosley beforehand knows how bad he looked in there. Floyd fought a good fight and he did what he had to do but lets just be honest about it.

The writing might have been on the wall already for Shane anyway. He had struggled against a well past-it Mayorga, and lost to Miguel Cotto. His domination of Margarito may have been a little deceptive. He was fighting a slower, plodding, come-forward guy, who was tailor-made for him. Shane even at that time had lost a lot of the speed that he once had.

I definitely wouldn't call him a shot fighter but he's getting close to his expiration. His reflexes and speed have noticeably faded and he's pushing 40. These things are going to show up somewhere at the top level.

No one thought Pacquiao was gonna beat Oscar. Most people forget this.

Most people thought Mayweather was gonna beat Shane but thought Shane was dangerous,

Both are solid wins in my book.

Manny beat an older and weight drained Oscar but look what DLH did to Forbes the fight before. He threw 850 punches and won most of those rounds. That fight was close to being stopped with all the punishment Stevie was taking and Oscar weighed 150 for that fight. DLH didn't have to go down to 145 like he did it was a 147 lb. fight but he did, was weight drained trying to get more speed for the fight, and got dominated. The great fighter in his prime beat the fading former champion.

Shane hurt Floyd in the 2nd but Mayweather recovered and won every round after also. Mosley was 38 years old and had some ring rust on him but his last fight he was dominant. Same senairo. The great fighter near his prime beat an older world class fighter.

Pacquiao didn't beat a 1997 version of DLH, and Mayweather didn't beat a 2000 Mosley but they did what they had to do.

I agree. Mosley was not shot but had declined a lot. And that was not even to the benefit, the fight would have been more fun if Shane was closer to his prime, probably Floyd would still have won.

IMO, Floyd has more impressive wins such as Hatton, DH, Judah, Hernandez. To me, Mosley had declined a lot. I am sure even Floyd was expecting a tougher fight.

I agree with you 100 per cent. The Hoya that Pac fought and Mayweather fought is a shell of his old self.

Mosley as well is a ghost of his prime.

It is only the idots who are putting so much emphasis to it.

The Hoya fights were money fights, nothing more. It did not add anything to their accomplishment (unless you are a Floydette who will start to nitpick that Hoya fought Mayweather at 154, his more natural weight).Hindsight is gold because we all become geniuses.Who would have predicted that the Golden girl would be already less than 147 two weeks before the fight? Who would predicted that Hoya would stop using his jab?

nice thread. have to agree here. Both fighters fought someone who was past his prime, shot, old, almost no reflexes and a shell of their former self

u do know that floyd only threw 18 more punches. Was he tired too? all the post fight talk stated that it was floyd who adjusted well and no one even mentioned old or tired.
