Goddamn!!!!!! Thats some raw ****. What were people thinking back then? letting somebody get destroyed like that over and over again. was there no neutral corners either? he just waited for him to get back up and knock him out again. I didn't know things went down like that back then.

Haha...I keep telling people that these type of fights happened in the early 20s and 30s when the weight restrictions weren't as strict between lightweight and welterweight

The height gives a little more of a "circus" esque feel for Oscar vs Manny more than the weight does.

Roy Jones was outweighed by how many pounds against Ruiz? I kow it's tough to compare because of Roy's skills, but you can't deny the difference in weight.

In 2008, Boxing's has proven to expect the unexpected.

I was actually thinking how restrained Dempsey was when Willard was both on the way up and on the way down.

This is a man who is allowed to set upon him the moment he is clear of the floor (knees and gloves i believe though i may be wrong on the wording so dont quote) a couple of times he lets him stand straight up and almost catch his breath. Other times not so much

Johnson was done by the time he fought Willard, yet still lasted 26 rounds.

But I do think that Johnson is overrated a tad.

Johnson was 38 and way past his best and was beating Willard before the older and smaller Johnson wilted and Willard stopped him in the 26th round.

Willard didn't have a chance to recover with Dempsey on him even before he had a chance to stand up straight. Primitive rules.

I've got a great book "King's of the Ring - The History of Heavyweight Boxing", It Mention's Willard's injuries "Broken Cheekbone in 12 place's, Broken Jaw in 13 place's, 8 broken teeth and 2 Cracked rib's" Willard claim's Dempsey fought with loaded gloves but it sound's to me more like a Car crash victim. I can't see De La Hoya causing Pacman quite as much pain at least i hope not.

Dempsey himself said many of his KO's would not have happened becasue of rule changes.....but Willard would have been out after only 3 KD's.

They changed the rules for Dempsey vs Tuenny, which was why an alert Tuenny took a longer count. Tuenny by the way had been thumbed in the eye in sparing and had a blind spot...That was why Tunney went down for the first of second time in his life.

You should see Wepner vs Ali, wehn Wepner laces Ali real good....lacing use to be used, though illlegal....but Hopkins would have been a master of it.

Other better examination other than by a over exhited doctor...showed lots less dammage.....

now Dempsey said, he was weighing about 178, but put rocks in his underware to make the betting a bit better.
The loaded glove **** came out later....after Dempsey left Tex. The gloves were examined by the side or the boxer himself as normal.
