As per ESPN and Fat Dan. Khan was so quick to prematurely announce the fight to take the heat off blatantly ducking Brook. Maybe Pac and his camp came to their senses and actually wanted to face a legitimate opponent. Eggington and Skeete are available for Khan - will he avoid them like he avoided Brook? http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/story/_/id/18847682/announced-fight-manny-pacquiao-amir-khan-happen This content is protected
No surprise. No venue confirmed. All they did was agree a purse percentage split. The money for it hadn't been secured and they were hoping some rich Emiratis would cough up.
I commented on a thread in the main but I'll comment here too because I never stfu, oh also my wife says I constantly repeat myself and I like to be consistent. Hearn was getting absolutely slaughtered on twitter by Khan fans for saying this fight wasn't happening and said again in another interview he had spoken to people closely connected to Pacquaio who said this fight was never happening. I bet Khan wished he took that mega money Brook fight now. On a sidenote, if Brook goes on to beat Spence Jr I think he should move up to 154 and insist if Khan wants it then come up to 154 because now if Brook beats Spence Jr then Brook will hold most of the aces in my opinion. Khan has backed himself in to a corner, if he forces his WBC mandatory and Thurman entertains it then he isn't getting paid that well for a Thurman fight which I have zero doubt he would lose, so now he has some tough choices to make now, does he stay inactive and hope, wait and pray he gets a Pacquaio payday at the end of the year? Sound familiar? Khan embarrassed himself waiting around for Mayweather so surely he can't risk being that inactive and irrelevant again.
It's almost 100% guaranteed that Khan will give up his WBC ranking to not fight Thurman. There's no way he would fight someone that much better than him for such a small payday in comparison for what he could make to get knocked out vs Brook. I keep saying it, but Eggington and Skeete are there for Khan and tbh I would fancy them both at this stage. There are very few fights out there in which Khan does not get savagely KO'd. Maybe he should think about retiring?
Khan should have taken a weight drained Brook at 147 who was coming off a beating but now he either has Thurman and I agree he won't take up his option or very possibly Brook at 154 or a catchweight if no title on the line. Either way he is getting KTFO. Khan won't retire, I believe what he will do is have the "warm up" he said he wanted instead of going straight in to a Brook fight, he will see what happens with Brook Vs Spence Jr, go rather quiet and hope Garcia Vs Thurman II happens and not force his WBC position and then hope and pray he somehow gets Pacquaio at the end of the year. It's a gamble, Pacquaio could retire any time now, he has political ambition and a life away from boxing now or Arum could simply not want Khan and make it difficult. Whoever advises Khan needs a little slap, they have somehow missed or couldn't convince Khan of a huge outdoor PPV fight against Brook, a fights against a Kell Brook coming off a beating and back down at 147, a weight that Brook, Hearn and all involved have said is a real struggle now and he was coming down from 160. When is/was a better time? I think they probably did try and convince Khan, Hearn and Khans reps had plenty of talks, so I can only assume it is Khan who wants no part of Brook, Khan priced himself out and it's Khan who wants the cash out payday against a "name" and he has now left himself with few options if this Pacquaio fight isn't revived.
Amir Khan once again takes a L. Does this guy ever stop losing? Why the **** do you announce something when no money has ever been put on the table? Team Khan and Pacquiao are idiots if they though someone was putting up £30 mil for this fight.
Just on that side note, I've got a real bad feeling about the Brook vs Spence fight. I really like Brook and think is timing is nailed on...but draining himself down to an unhealthy 147 to fight a really strong, hard hitting kid in Spence Jn has got bad news written all over it. At the very least I think it could be 'rematch' material & in the meantime any chance of a Brook vs Khan fight are gone forever.
I agree, it's a seriously dangerous fight for Brook and if Brook coming down from 160 really struggles then he might be in serious trouble because Spence Jr so far looks like no joke. I think we also have to take in to account the eye injury, it was a bad break and we don't know how that's healed and sparring won't test it like Spence has the potential to test it. But I'm British and staying positive though LOL Brook will somehow get the W.
The Bobfather wanted Jeff Horn so that's who Manny will fight. Anyone who think Manny has any real say in who he fights is utterly deluded.
