Yea fair one. I do also remember the ringside doc not motioning for the fight to be stopped, as well as the ref checking if Marg could see out of his eye. Still, the damage he sustained from the "slashing" punch (think it was the 4th round), really did make a mess of Marg's eye and I'll maintain that had it been absolutely anyone else, it would have been stopped by the ref. I can understand the corners "obligation" to know when their fighter has had enough, but in all honesty, I don't really think Garcia really cares what happens to Marg. As far as he's concerned, Marg is a come forward fighter who's pride will always come before his health and his relationship with Marg is purely for monetary gain. The three of them (Marg/Garcia/Rios) publically made fun of Roach's parkinsons, so I doubt there moral compass bears much significance. I probably sound like a right puff but don't get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing Marg get his face filled in and I wouldn't really be all too bothered if he gets blinded in his rematch with Cotto. I remember from one of the 24/7 Pac/Marg episodes, they interviewed an ex sparring partner of Marg's, who suffered a smashed bone or something by his eye in a training session nearly blinding him, no doubt due to plaster handwraps. My intention for this thread was merely to assess whether or not the ref, and ONLY the ref would be liable for some kind of disciplinary given the damage Marg sustained. Upon reflection however, if the Doc says yes and he carries out his basic visual tests, he probably didn't get a bolloking.
Do you honestly think with Jerry Jones and Arum being in cahoots with trying to build up Dallas Stadium as one of the new places to box that they would even allow for this fight to end in a stoppage? Yeah right. Clear as day Margarito could not see at all but he still went ahead and fought.
