Pac vs Mayweather now in lieu of say...two years ago?

Hear me out before blasting this question. I'm also not trying to put a damper on their fight, if they ever do face each other, but the bottom line is that we may not get Pac vs Mayweather for about another year, if at all. During this time, Pac went through DLH, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, Mosley, and soon JMM. Take into consideration ALL the training camps he had during this time. That's seven camps he had to go through, not to mention the actual fights. You can say he was fairly unscathed during the Hatton, DLH, Clottey, and Mosley fight, and actually had to fight in the Cotto and Margarito fights. So taking all that into consideration, would you as a fan think he is as "fresh" as he would have been say one, two, or even three years ago? Would the best time to have faced Mayweather have been around the Clottey fight?

Now let's look at Mayweather. He hasn't had a significant fight since JMM, and as many have said, even sparring won't keep you as sharp as fighting two to three times a year. Will his long layoff hurt his performance in the ring even if he fights a tune-up?

Is it fair to say that this fight, if it were to happen, would have been a lot better two to three years ago? Would you still consider Pac or Mayweather in their physical prime? Would you give the advantage or disadvantage to either of these guys? If they do fight, will Pac's activity help or hurt him? How about Mayweather? And the last question, would you rather have seen this fight two to three years ago?

I honestly think the answer to this is solely dependant on the outcome of their respective next fights. Although straight off the bat i'd probably say advantage pac, as he is more used to the higher weights now and also due to mayweathers inactivity.

the perfect time would've been in 2009, after Hatton, at a catchweight of 144 or 145. Or in early 2010 at the full WW limit.

now it's different. Pacquiao is a part time fighter and been a pro for too long. Floyd has taken too many layoffs. It's not at Bhop v RJJ II levels yet, but it's starting to get there.

As time goes by Pac's chances decrease in my eyes. This fight should have been made a year ago

This fight should have happened in November of 2010. This was the perfect time. Both May and Pac were coming off sound victories, and both were in tip-top condition without the need for tune-ups or anything. The promoters and HBO also had plenty of time to promote and hype the event.

And as v2k987 above has said, Pacquiao is likely to decline quicker than Floyd due to the styles and competitiveness of fights he's been in. The Cotto, Margarito and now JMM fights, will have been more gruesome than the JMM, Mosley and Ortiz fights that Floyd would have been involved in.

Vote: Yes, it would have been better two to three years ago.
(By better I mean the condition of the fighter's, Not what the styles matchup would make)

Always seen this as a **** matchup w/disappointment written all over it.
