Problem with Tszyu is lack of footwork. I was leaning toward Tszyu before the Hatton fight. Not anymore.

I love how a few have pointed to the Phillips and Hatton fights as there reason's for Pac winning this one , It would have no barring on this fight what so ever as first and formost styles make fights and can swing them to. Hatton (Prime) and Phillips where all wrong for kosta and let's not forget when Hatton beat Zoo he was not the fighter he once was ( thow he was far from shot as some have stated ) and to the person who stated Cotto had bigger power then Zoo is just talking pure bollex Cotto's Power was not even close to Zoo's right ( at any weight ) -- Trust Me! also Prime Tszyu beats Marquez,Cotto,Morales,Barrera and Hatton even thow Hatton's style whould always be akward for Zoo.

To the ? in hand Prime 4 Prime at 140 Tszyu by KO everytime Pac is taylor made for Zoo and that's not me hating as i agree with earlier posts that Pac is higher up P4P but Styles make matches

Here's my analysis of Kostya's strengths:

    1) Very powerful straight right hand that is effective against southpaws.

    2) Accurate punches.

    3) Very good at cutting off fighters inside the ring, which is a vital asset against the perpetual motion machine that is Pacquiao.

    4) Ability to adapt to super-fast fighters (Judah, Mitchell) through good timing.

    5) Strong chin, at least better than Hatton and Cotto's but below De la Hoya's.

Despite all that, I still think that Pacquiao's overwhelming work rate would smother Tszyu towards a late round stoppage or UD. He'd certainly fair much better than Oscar, Ricky, or Miguel did against Manny. Oscar was too slow, Hatton was never really that good, and Miguel had a suspect chin and a less-than-optimal right hand.

Their styles would present an interesting situation. Kostya chose his shots wisely and was conservative in his work rate. But he was supremely accurate with his punches. Contrast this to Pacquiao's relentless onslaught during every round.

There was one point where Kostya was my favourite fighter (even above Pacquiao) but the recent Cotto and Hatton fights just made Manny #1 on my personal list.

now this is a dream matchup for the ages. I don't care what anybody says, this fight could honestly go either way.

It would have to be a prime Kostya (2002) vs prime pac (2009) of course..

This fight doesn't go more than 5 rounds me thinks.

The Pacquiao of the past year would beat a prime Tszyu at 140, but I'd give Tszyu a slight edge against the Manny of old. Pacquiao's power and versatility have improved tremendously in such a short time span.

I'm a huge fan of Kostya. But the thing is, I don't think we have even seen the best of Pacman yet.

Iagree that Junior Jones chin was not good, but remember that he does have a big win over Canizales,Barrera 2x,and elicier Julio who was a good fighter when Jones beat him (that has to count for something). At bantamweight he looked like a Future Great he just lacked a good chin. Which is why I said He was A B+ fighter and not an A+ fighter.
As for Phillips I have always stated how underrated he was and he is one of my favorite guys back then. I called the upset over Tszyu and he was a big underdog I didnt understand why cause i had seen him on the way up and new he was an excellent fighter,I also Knew that Tszyu could be exposed by a crafty tough fighter, like when he got a gift over Hector Lopez in his 11th fight.
Im not trying to bash Tszyu here I think he was a very good fighter with a big punch good speed and timing, great amatuer background, and above average chin. I think he deserves a spot in the HOF one day,but he is not an ATG like many people on ESB think.

    Very good point, rushman!!

Pac continues to add new factors to his already large arsenal.

Well Stevenson faced Igor Vysotsky (check the screen name :) twice. Vysotsky won both, 1 by KO. So since Vysotsky made Stevenson go to sleep and Stevenson didn't beat Vysotsky, who hits harder?

When Kostya used all his talent (which he didn't for alot of his pro career) he was something else. His ability to slip shots and counterpunch was second to none. Check the Vernon forrest fight

Also a young Tszyu had very good hand speed, alot seem to forget that.

Before Pacs last three fights, whenever this thread came up i always picked Tszyu to beat and maybe stop pac late... however, seeing how Pac has handled the higher weightclass, and has gone from a come forward one dimensional buzzsaw to what he is today, i am starting to think his speed and darting in and out style would give Zyu some problems..... and now i am at the stage where im not quite sure who i think would win.

After Mayweather's right hand takes apart the improved Manny, hopefully people will be able to agree that Tszyu can do an even better job.

It wasn't a gift but it was a close fight which Tszyu won. I agree with most of the things you said except for the above average chin as I think his chin was very good(not great). As I've said on the Classic Forum recently if you consider fighters like Carlos Zarate, Khaosai Galaxy among others ATGs Tszyu is one as well; but I think ATG status should be reserved for truly great boxers. Tszyu was a legend of his time but not of all time.
