Victor Ortiz would probably stop Manny late, who has never campaigned at 140 in his entire life. Ortiz hasn't fought the best opposition, but I think he brings a lot to the table that would offset most of Manny's advantages. He's an explosive kid, quite big built, with a lot of power. For a guy who had trouble with Marquez' power in spirts at 130, it's a big ask for Manny to take the power and hand speed or an Ortiz who is considerably bigger than Marquez, and hits a lot harder. Victor is 5'9 with a reach of 70, whereas Pacquiao is 5'6 with a reach of 67. Disparity in size has played a huge factor down the years, but the Hoya fight was dominated by Pacquiao mainly due to the fact Oscar was dead at 147. This is obvious to anybody who watches that fight from a neutral standpoint. i don't see Manny, the smaller man, standing up to the raw power of a young Ortiz. Ortiz KO8
nah back in the old days when pac is lighter, he used to spar with ortiz, pacman always outclass him with his power and speed, google it, in his recent interview ortiz told that he can't hold pacman's power back then, now that pacman is even stronger, ortiz told he can't imagine on how he will handle pac's power
right now, i think pac beats ortiz. speed will also be the key factor in this fight like in the hoya fight. but of course, ortiz will throw punches more than oscar how about hatton ortiz, who would you pick?
Like oscar, victor is a chicano but really pac won't accomplish anything in fighting him. Ortiz must build his name and must be contented in being a sparring partner.
It isn't really all that bold, just an assessment made when considering styles. Victor Ortiz is a star in the making, and has been doing demolition jobs on most of his opponents in the 140 division, a division Manny has never stepped into once during his career. I don't see why we should also assume that he fairs well against a young contender in Ortiz, because of the De La Hoya result. If you watch that fight from a neutral standpoint, it's abundantly clear that he wasn't fighting the Oscar every expected to see that night. For whatever reasons; dehydration, weight issues, or simply old age. Make you own assumption on that one. In any event, Ortiz poses more threats than Manny's opponent of December 6th. To put this matchup in perspective, think how Ortiz would have handled Oscar the other night. It's a winnable fight for Ortiz, even at this stage in his career, and I believe he has enough size, handspeed, and power to hurt Manny, who is really just a 130lb fighter. He didn't even prove himself to be the best at 135.
Ortiz hasnt fought anybody to get the respect that he beats Pac. Ive read articles where Ortiz was getting lit up by Pac in sparring. Also, Ortiz hasnt been tested yet. Im not saying he isnt any good just saying its a bold staement that he knocks out Pac in 8 rounds.
Sparring has no baring on the result here, and you know that. Ortiz would be a hell of an obstacle for Pacquiao to overcome, who, although everybody seems to be favouring, has never ever in his entire career, fought at 140. We don't even know how his punch resistance is at 135, let alone 140. This is not an outrageous pick, no more outrageous than people thinking Pacquiao can hang with any of the top 10 Welterweights.
