PACFAN84's Final Pre-Fight Remarks on CALZAGHE v JONES

What I wish to happen:

A Jones win. Points, stoppage, don't care, just a Jones win. I have been a huge Jones fan for 15 years now, I think he is the greatest fighter of his generation, and it has hurt me to see his decline over the last 5 years. A win tonight would be a fairytale ending to a wonderful career, and I would love to see Roy do it as it would really seal his place as an ATG for even the last few remaining doubters (Rico and co). The thought of seeing Roy on the canvas again like in Tarver I and Johnson makes me feel sick.



What I think will happen:

A Calzaghe stoppage win. I think Jones will have enough magic to give us one great round, like the 5th round of his 3rd fight against Tarver, but other than that it will be a Calzaghe domination job. Jones won't have the resilience to cope with his pressure, and the referee will intervene between rounds 4 and 9.



If I am right:

Then I will be absolutely gutted. Calzaghe will get what he set out for: a big bag of cash for beating up a man he himself said was shot as far back as 2004. For me, this fight should never have been made, and I have said that from the first second it was announced and have never wavered despite the hype and the hope. Roy should have retired after the Johnson defeat (or after the Ruiz fight in an ideal world), and Calzaghe, as p4p#3 in the world, should be taking on other top class fighters, not guys who are shot and are living off their name outpointing journeymen and fellow shot legends. The fight has always been a sham in my eyes. There is no honour or glory in beating up someone who has been shot for years.



If I am wrong:

Then any ESB credibility I ever had will have been utterly destroyed considering how vocal I have been in my condemnation of this contest and of Calzaghe for making it happen, and of how easy it will be for Joe.






However, I'll be the happiest ******* this side of the Atlantic...

I genuinely believe I may pass out with pleasure if Roy wins. To see him back to his aggressive, power-punching, rapid, arrogant self would be an absolute joy to behold, it would be the greatest thing I as a boxing fan could experience. It is NOT going to happen, but I am allowing myself to dream for a second or two. Let's just say we would both be ****ing ecstatic!
