two very good boxers mcfarland was very fast on his feet with a great left hand and decent power and was probably best at lightweight holding a win and two draws with freddie welsh and a victory over jimmy britt and later in his career managed a win over jack britton and between 1905 and 1916 won 93 drew 3 and lost 0. jimmy mclarnin though i think would get a tough decision win over mcfarland ,mclarnin beat in total 13 world champions and was a welterweight world champion .he did not have mcfarlands speed of foot but like mcfarland was a very skilled boxer but mclarnin has the edge in power here and i feel that would enable him to take control in the mid to late rounds and win by a ud . just an opinion
This thread has more bumps than responses I favor McLarnin 2/3 times in a series, once by UD, once by SD, and once losing an MD. The SD is controversial. McLarnin's main benefit here is superior physical strength and punch power against McFarland's inside work, though McFarland is the superior technician I favor McFarland over 20 rounds, McFarland was a monster in those last 5 rounds and could rally enough rounds to consistently edge McLarnin
