For the real insiders here, who wins at 135 lbs and why?

Very tough pick Ive seen Mcfarland against Welsh, clever tricky ,well schooled fighter,Tendler gave Leonard a close call tough south paw with a big punch, another good matchup Luigi!,Im gonna go for Tendler but not with any confidence.

BOXREC in its all time listings as them both in the top 10 lightweights of all time - it could easily be a pick em but I will go out on a limb for two reasons -

First McFarland knew how to handle southpaws - Lew gets no edge there against Packy, as he does against most boxers. This is based on a quote from Barny Ross that it was Packy who taught him how to handle southpaws. Ross was in with some damn good ones and did OK so I give some credit to the theory that being a southpaw isn't good against McFarland.

Second - Packy is the bigger guy with the bigger punch, tough and as GOOD as Lew was it was a short sharp hook that changed the direction of his title fight with Micky Walker in 1924. I could see that being the case here also - Tendler would finish on his feet - no doubt - but he wouldn't have won most of the rounds on most of the cards. But it would be close...

    McFarland MD Tendler...

If my esteemed colleague Mr. McVey cares to educate me on my shortcomings concerning knowledge of Lew Tendler - I might have to change my pick!

And Luigi - thanks for a thought provoking matchup. If I could just get you to see the light about Jimmy Wilde!!!

    LOL

    Salute

Great predictions, mcvey and Vockerman! I have to pick McFarland slightly over Tendler, I think Packey´s combination of his power (especially early in his career and at 135 lsb), speed, reach- advantage and his great unorthodox skills would be too much for Lew. I would expect a close UD for Packey...

    McFarland UD 15 Tendler

    (9-6)

Btw, for the ones who don´t know him that good, here some informations:
