I know he is a national hero and all but if you're not competing at the games then you should not be able to carry the flag. The honour should go to the countries "best althlete at the games" or one of their more experienced/established athletes.

Not sure whether pros should be allowed to compete at the Olympics - perhaps you could ditch Taekwondo and have the two separate codes of boxing.....

the problem with rule of not allowing pros in boxing is that not all sporting events ban pros from joining the olympics. take tennis and basketball for example. the best tennis players will be representing their countries. we all know that a lot of countries joining the basketball event have at least one player playing in the nba.

the IOC should at least be consistent whether to allow or ban the pros from joining the olympic events.

Imo the olympics should be for amateurs only but real amateurs not the state-amateurs of the former Sovjet Union or Cuba.

well said. though it's very difficult to filter out the state-amateurs since they are really not pro in the sense that they don't compete for money. they look just like government employees, earning their income from government allowances.

it supposed to be not pacquiao but when beijing invited manny to be some sort of an ambassador to the games, he was made the official flag bearer by the philippine sports officials. too bad that only one pinoy boxer qualified for this year's olympics, the veteran harry tanamor. that shows how philippine boxing had regressed in the amateur ranks. hope he can get a medal.
