I did say before that Pacman had not really proven anything, but in destroying Hatton, I do think he has a case now as an ATG. I also argued that there was no way of comparing Kostya Tszyu to Pac at 140 since they had never fought there. Now I would like to ask some questions: Is Pac an ATG at 140 after one fight there? Questions to consider: - Hatton was not the best he has ever been? - Hatton has taken too much punishment in his career? - Hatton has the perfect style for Pacman? - Hatton beat KT (who was definitely not prime) who is probably an ATG 140? I am not taking away from Pac's achievement, I want to understand how great it really is.
This is Pac's 6th division title, Hatton is still regarded as the Man at 140lbs, Hatton is in top shape, and at his peak form (it was predicted that Hatton would look shot against Pac) a common excuse actually Hatton was supposedly stronger, more powerful Pac's resume will speak for itself. He is ATG
He's obviously not at ATG at the weight of 140. Overall he is an ATG, however, for his whole body of work in his career.
If he gets a few more big wins at 140 , sure it could be said.... but its more important that he will be considered an ATG overall and P4P.
i thought it would be a pick em fight but was leaning towards Hatton (assuming Hatton could upset Pacs rythm)...****...couldn't have been more wrong. To my mind he is an atg....if not now then when....it was a stunning win.
One fight at a weight class doesn't make you the best ever at that weight. For example - Roberto Duran took Leonard's 0, but you wont ever read Roberto's name on the top of any 147 lists. Now if Manny sticks around at 140 and beats a few guys there I will personally bump this and the 15 threads about lists Asero has made and re-rate him, but I feel this is a pit stop on Pac's march to the HoF and ATG status before his last couple of fights I see happening at a catch weight abover that division.
body of work? legacy? One fight doth not erase Hatton's body of work in a division he dominated for the majority of 10 years. Just the same way that Tszyu's loss in 05 doesn't erase all he had done before that.
