Going into 2008, The guy promotes arguably the three most marketable fighters in boxing, three pound for pounders and what does the old man do ? puts the in fights they almost can't win:

    1. Cotto- putting his shaky chin against a monster in Margarito

    2. Pacman- putting him against the much bigger Oscar at 147? WTF ?

    3. Pavlik- putting him against the most skilled fighter in the world, and agreeing to make the fight at 170 ? when you have much more winnable money fights against guys like Winky and Mora who are currently availiable at his natural weight.

They will all lose, probably by KO. Untill last year, the guy promoted his fighters gradually but I guess now he just wants to cash out.
    Good job Bob !

    1. he's also Margo's promoter I believe. it was the best fight available for both fighters. why blame Arum for Cotto losing?

    2. Pacman's camp wants the fight. His trainer (who has also trained Oscar) feels he can win the fight. Why blame Arum for making a fight his fighter wants?

    3. Mora was too expensive (due to having to pay Forrest to step aside), Winky is almost as bad of a fight as Hopkins stylistically and probably was more expenisve/less marketable. Sturm lives in a cave and Abraham has a mandatory. Would you rather have Pavlik beat up another bum like Lockett? It was the best fight available and gives Pavlik a chance to show something/learn something.

So you advocate protecting them instead of getting them the best fights/money available? You'd make one hell of a promoter for the sport.

Get them the best fight available.
In their weight class, against a man in the same size.
A fighter with heart won't turn down a big money fight. It's the promoter's job to watch out for their health and match them in fights they can win with guys in their own size.

There are 17 different weight classes (way too many) now and Pavlik is a natural LHW. Arum had one hell of a time even getting this fight. Seems like the only man that TRULY wants to fight him at the moment is AA and he has his mandatory to get out of the way first.

Winky, Mora, Paul Williams, Allen Green all want to fight him. But Arum wants to get more money and doesn't care if a grandfather embaresses his fighter on national TV.
And by the way, I never heard of a natural LHW who fought twice above 160 in his career, and never weighted more than 170 for a fight... Being tall doesn't make you a natural 175 pounder. Is Paul Williams also a natural 175 pounder in your book ?

    1. Margarito and Williams were the two best fights out there for Cotto. Don't we want the best fighting the best? Plus margo is one of Arum's fighter's aswell so Bob wins either way. The fight was good for boxing and good business sense for Arum.

    2. This is risky but Manny does enter the ring at about 145 and if the fight can be made at 147 then this will have a major effect on DLH already poor stanima so i think this will make the fight more competitive.

    3. Pavlik may be moving up in weight but from what i have seen most people are favouring Kelly. Infact some people think it's suicide for old Hopkins to step into the ring with a young, unrelentless power puncher.

Sue Arum for what charges? After that, what? Who will promote your fights? Go to another promoter who runs the risk of getting sued? That's stupid, bro. I think you're not serious about this. Why bite the hand that feeds you?

Pavlik's walk around weight makes him a natural LHW. Paul Williams got the money he asked for and punked out. Winky wanted more than Pavlik. I don't think Mora or Green are ready for Pavlik and HBO will only pay for certain fights. They don't want another 'Lockett'.

Fought twice above 160? Try 12 times with five of those fights being at or above the SMW limit. And by the way, all the fights at or above 168 ended in quick knock outs. But I guess you're right; just who the hell does Arum think he is putting Ring Magazines #7 p4p fighter in with their #4 p4p fighter?
