P4P best Manny Pacquiao has given up the WBC lightweight title. In a letter to the WBC, Pacquiao wrote:

Dear Mr. Sulaiman and World Boxing Council;

I take great pride and honor in representing the W.B.C. as its Lightweight Champion at the present time. Your instituion has opened the door formy success in boxing and I am grateful for the prestige your organization has given me over the years as one of its champions in many different weight categories.

I have had discussion with my team as to the direction of my career since my fight at 147 lbs with Oscar De La Hoya, on December 6, 2008. After careful consideration and the in the advancement of my professional boxing career, I intend at this time to campaign in the Super Lightweight division with a fight against Ricky Hatton on May 2, 2009.
Therefore, this correspondence will serve as formal notice to the World Boxing Council, I am voluntarily relinquishing my W.B.C. Lightweight Championship Belt in order to pave the way for a new champion and provide opportunities and success to other fighters in the Lightweight division.

I look forward to the opportunity and distinction of representing your organization as a World Champion in the future.

Sincerely
Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao

This is a good decision by pacquiao. Now that he relinquished his belt, Sulaiman won't be able to force pacquiao to pay fees with his fight against hatton, just like in the dela hoya fight. This will give opportunities to other fighters as well to claim the WBC lightweight belt.

Does this mean that Valero-Pitalua will now be for the real title, or will the WBC pull another stunt similar to the WBA with the Diaz-Marquez fight?

I hope we see winner vs winner.JMM has stated that he wants to unify as many belts as possible.Having the WBA super belts helps because of no mandatories(should he beat Diaz of course)

I read somewhere that the winner of Valero-Pitalua would fight the winner of Diaz-Marquez. a JMM-Valero fight would be great to see and Should the Valero fight be for the WBC belt now that Manny vacated it, it would unify more belts. (For JMM :hey)

:goodIf JMM beats Diaz and Valero fights for the vacant WBC and wins say,a JMM/Valero fight would be for them all really-WBA/WBC/WBO/IBO/The Ring.Impressive haul just missing the IBF

Damn IBF screwd it up...He should get it too afterwards. I would love to see JMM get ALL the belts at 135. After he does that he will probably go after Pac for the rubbermatch.

marquez vs valero would be a great matchup, although diaz-valero would be better. Either Marquez or diaz will UD valero, IMO.

Would be great to see somebody win all of the belts in a weight class especially JMM for me that'd be great.Good chance of it happening too if the match ups can/will be made.
JMM/Pac III may happen later down the line at 140lbs but I'm not sure whether or not Pac is as keen as JMM is for it

Valero vs the winner of JMM and Diaz for the unified lightweight championship ... possibly the undisputed title.

I have a feeling Pac-JMM III is gonna be like their retirement fight. I mean their each others nemesis and need to fight again but your right Pac has his mind on megafights first.
