Actually they take more blood for a physical exam especially if they're testing for HIV, malaria, hepatitis B/C, etc.... as well as liver function tests and a complete blood count.
Do you know how much blood is required to test for those diseases? A lot.

Again, who says this wasn't edited into the episode? Has HBO commented on it?

Exactly, it doesn't matter what the test was for, to make matters worse there are reports the next day he was hard at training.

What happened to him being weak.

Why would they edit in something which happened 2 weeks prior?
You're making a claim here. Do you have any evidence for it?

LOS ANGELES (December 28, 2009) . . . After a Christmas weekend filled with comments and reports related to the potential mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao
    This content is protected
, Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions are issuing the following statement in order to set the record straight. Let the record be clear: Manny Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum are threatening to walk away from the largest fight in history..

The fact is that random blood and urine testing was one of the many deal points and was listed along with the others, such as the financial split, the weight, financial penalty for being overweight, the appointment of the foreign sales agent, the production of the marketing assets, the gloves and many more. Team Mayweather made major concessions in many of these areas and we were optimistic that Team Pacquiao would do the same as it related to the request for random blood and urine testing, which Floyd Mayweather

    agreed to immediately.

It is disappointing for us to see that the benefits of blood testing and the fact that many different substances and procedures can only be detected by blood testing, are still not fully understood by all.

Their "take it or leave it" approach where blood testing would stop 30 days prior to the fight unless the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) approved differently is another indication that they may not want this fight. Pacquiao's position (and as stated on his website) is. "The truth is taking blood out of my body does not seem natural to me and mentally I feel it will weaken me if blood is taken from me just days before the fight" or he is "afraid of needles" and does not feel comfortable with blood being taken closer than 30 days before the fight is another interesting point. The fact is that he did have blood taken just 14 days prior to his fight with Ricky Hatton
    This content is protected
, an event which was documented on HBO's 24/7 reality show.

Also when told that Pacquiao feels that the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA
    This content is protected
) is an agent of Golden Boy Promotions-which is in and of itself a ridiculous accusation-we moved swiftly and made yet another concession by stating that we would be perfectly fine to retain another agency which would do the random urine and blood tests and jointly agree on a reasonable cutoff prior to the fight but which would still maintain the integrity of the results. Let it be clear that this procedure was declined by Pacquiao as was the proposal to bring in an independent mediator such as Sen. John McCain, a suggestion that was in fact embraced by Bob Arum, but also declined by Manny Pacquiao.

Let it be very clear that nobody from Team Mayweather or Golden Boy Promotions is accusing Pacquiao of anything. But the reality seems to be that for whatever reason Pacquiao does not want to participate in random blood testing, which has already been deemed a harmless procedure that many current athletes are subjected to prior to and during competition.

Team Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions is still open to the earlier discussions of having both parties work out a mutually agreeable understanding of the testing, which would be conducted by a mutually agreed upon agency.

In closing Floyd Mayweather is one of the most decorated athletes boxing has ever seen and he is anxious to make this fight happen for all of the fans and sports enthusiasts that are asking for this fight to happen too. As you might have noticed Floyd has been silently watching and patiently waiting for the final details of the fight to get worked out. As Floyd has already stated he does not have a problem with the random procedure and will be under the same requirements as Pacquiao, it is simply hard for him to understand why there is reluctance on Pacquiao's part to agree to do the same.

    And this is from ESPN
When HBO televised "Pacquiao/Hatton 24/7", it aired footage of Pacquiao taking a routine blood test as part of his pre-fight medical exam. The blood test was conducted approximately 14 days before the fight; it punches holes in Pacquiao's argument that giving blood inside 30 days of a fight negatively impacts his performance.

For me, this settles that Pacquiao has not been telling the truth all along.
First he claims a blood test 30 days before a fight will weaken him, when he was seen taking blood 14 days before the Hatton fight.
The only difference between the two tests is that one was a physical while the other would be testing for PEDs.
I do wonder if the lab saved the samples of blood from his physical. It would be interesting to get it tested now.

This is still consistent with what Pac said:

MANILA, Philippines – Seven-time world champion Manny Pacquiao has merely laughed off the drug testing issue being raised by Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s saying that the former pound-for-pound king is just trying to excuse himself from the fight.
“Marami lang siyang dahilan, marami siyang dinedemand. Siguro wala pa ‘yong fight, takot na,” said Pacquiao ("He has a lot of excuses, lots of demands. We're not even fighting yet but maybe he's scared already").
The Filipino champion, who recently won the World Boxing Organization welterweight title from Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto, said Mayweather maybe getting nervous with the idea of trading punches with him.
Thus, American boxer came out with a statement demanding an Olympic-type of dope testing.
“Sa akin walang problema kung gusto niyang lumaban. Fight kaming dalawa... pero kung medyo natakot siya -- palakasin muna niya loob niya,” said Pacquiao ("For me, I have no problem if he wants to fight... but if he's scared -- he needs time to improve his confidence").
Pacquiao made it clear he has no qualm in undergoing tests. What he’s opposed against is having him to give blood so near the March 13 fight date.
“Require natin lahat pati blood test... pero ‘wag naman doon sa day of the fight, manghihina ka naman noon,” he said ("Let's require everyone a blood test... but please not on the day of the fight, it weakens you").
The Filipino boxing star added that the Mayweather camp may also be using the issue to just to distract him.
“Gumagawa lang siya ng paraan, strategy niya para magalit ako... para ma-distract ako sa concentration sa fight,” said the reigning pound-for-pound king ("He's just making a way, a strategy to make me angry... to distract me out of my concentration in the fight").

That is the key thing I believe, although I think it's more like 4 or 5 days than 2 or 3.

This directly contradicts Arum and his later statements who want no random testing 30 days prior to the fight.
Besides if Manny only wants no testing on the day of the fight why doesn't the rest of his team say that too?
DO they know what PAC is on?

Pacman has made a big stink about this. But, the truth is, they only take a little blood from u and it does not weaken u. Pac is overexaggerating. I've been blood tested a couple of times.

instead of arguing why Pac believes what he believes in, why not just propose a cut-off date that would make Pacquiao unable to take advantage of steroids even if he wanted to.

Pacquiao leaves LA for Las Vegas 1-2 weeks before the fight. That last period is usually used to get his mental state at 100%, and there is very little intensity in training. Wouldn't it be logical to propose a cutoff date that coincides with that?

I was very very suspicious when Pac's team refused to take a random test 30 days before the fight yet had no problems with non-random test.
They cited a whole bunch of silly excuses like Pac's afraid of needles (when he's covered in tattoos), or that taking tests 30 days prior weakens him (when he was seen taking blood 14 days prior against Hatton). I think these speak for themselves.
Why is Pac's team (mind you Pac himself may not be aware of what they're giving to him) so desperately trying to avoid a simple blood test?

The truth will come out eventually, as it did in the tour de france, baseball, etc...

If I were Pac I would ask all the laboratories to destroy his blood samples which were taken previously. Remember how they tested Lance's blood which has been stored in a lab for 2 years?
