Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao yesterday said he will try his best to avert any ambition of Mexican icon Marco Antonio Barrera of forcing a rubbermatch of their classic duel.
This was Pacquiao's reaction in a recent interview with Fightnews before the hardhitting southpaw started his training at the Wild Card Gym in Sucat, Paranaque.
"I will do everything to win this fight. I'm excited in meeting Barrera," said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao was reacting to insinuations about him not giving his all in this return bout with Barrera as a third battle will mean another mouthwatering multi-million dollar clash with the Mexican.
"I always give my all when in training. For my fight against Barrera many will be surprised with the preparations that we are going to make," said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao unexpectedly came back Monday morning last week from a short trip in the United States where he attended the press conference of his fight with Barrera late last week in Los Angeles.
Pacquiao said they have firmed up their decision to hold his training camp in Cebu, specifically in the refurbished gym of close ally and International promoter Rex "Wakee" Salud.
"It's better to train here because the weather is warm and it is much easier for me to sweat. We also want to avoid any spies masquerading as fans who will watch as at the Wild Card Gym," added Pacquiao.
Pacquiao revealed that his sparring partners composed of two Mexican welterweights are scheduled to arrive today.
Pacquiao is set to face Barrera on October 6 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao beat Barrera in their initial encounter by scoring a brutal 11th round technical knockout victory on November 2003 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Though Barrera will be almost four years older since their first meeting, Pacquiao still deems the Mexican as a serious threat once they wage war inside the ring.
"He will be a bit slower but I still expect him to be strong enough to give me a good fight," said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is now in Cebu and will start his sparring sessions next week.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao praised the performance of his good buddy Penalosa, the country's third reigning world champion.
Pacquiao said he just asked Penalosa to show more aggressiveness in his fight against Jhonny Gonzalez in their 12-round world bantamweight battle last weekend.
The 35-year-old Penalosa was about to be dominated by the rangy and younger Gonzalez as the Filipino was being peppered with stiff jabs and strong combinations halfway through their battle.
Penalosa, just like what Pacquiao asked him to do, showed aggressiveness the whole time by stalking Gonzalez that finally paid off in the 7th canto when the Filipino got the proper distance in unleashing a vicious left hook to the body.
The blow was so fierce that Gonzalez went down on his knees in the neutral corner where he tried to catch his breath for a few minutes.
Though Penalosa is contemplating on retiring, Pacquiao feels Penalosa is good for at most three more fights.
Pacquiao insists Penalosa should defend his crown first before considering the calls for a rematch with world superbantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon of Mexico.
Penalosa lost a lopsided but controversial decision to De Leon the last time they met last March in Las Vegas.

enzo, thanks for having that avatar. :rasta

Barrera has one more great fight in him and Pac's style will be perfect for MAB.

Think Barrera - Hamed.......

If MAB came in to his fight with Hamed the way he did for the first Pac fight, same thing would have happened.....Hamed by KO.

Barrera will be up for this fight and will win.

MAB SD12 Pac

Barrera looked old and slow in the first fight.

That's the funniest **** I've ever seen. Barrera looked old and SLOW?, give me a damn break. At the time Barrera was younger than now and yet he showed serious speed against Marquez. Barrera looked old and slow to you because Pacquiao didn't make him look young nor fast, even though 1 fight after that and Barrera was fast and powerful against Morales. Barrera was in good shape for the first fight, it was just Pacquiao's awesome work that made him look old to you.

Honestly i don't know why a 2nd fight has been agreed 2. The 1st one was a blow out, and judging by Marco's last performance i feel Manny will stop him within 6
