Similar fight. 2 knockdowns in round one and then a finishing punch in round 2. Both Pacman and Hearns were faster and that is what made them easily stop their opponents.
I think it was very similar. Two knockdowns in round one and then the final knockout. Speed was the key in both fights.
exactly right, its this which makes me think maybe we're writing hatton off too soon, but then again id rather see him retire than tempt fate because that was a devastating, sickening knockout.
Not a dig against PAC and Hatton, Duran had an iron chin though and move up in weight unlike in this situation.
Pacman was not that small compared to Ricky from what I saw. Pacman's reach was two inches more than Ricky. The Hearns/Duran fight was eerily similar to Pac vs. Hatton just on the feeling of how the fight went. The speed was the key in both fights and the punches landed very clean. Punchstat was not around much when Hearns fought Duran 25 years ago, but I would like to see what the stats would show. I bet it would be very close to the Pacman/Hatton fight.
Duran had been fighting at 154 pounds since 1978, 6 years before this. Hearns was too quick just like Pacman was for Ricky.
