Marquez-Diaz in Houston, Guerrero signs A blockbuster bout between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton on May 2 in Las Vegas is nearly done according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Schaefer told AP "Im encouraged by the way its going, and Im talking to the Hattons (on Friday) again." Schaefer also said Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz is a go for February 28 in Diaz' hometown of Houston, Texas. Also it was reported that as expected Golden Boy has inked free agent and former two-time featherweight champion Robert Guerrero, who will likely return to the ring on the undercard of the February 24th clash between Antonio Margarito and Sugar Shane Mosley at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
thanks for the update. Never been a fan of Guerrero, and i think Valero would knock him out and John or Linares would beat him.
Should be a real competitive fight, I still cant decide who I think is going to win. I think its going the distance but I wont be utterly shocked at a tko either way. Hatton/Pac vs the winner of Marquez/Diaz sounds good to me.... the winner of that finale can face FMJ, hopefully he has beat both Margo & Cotto by then, that would make the fight bigger than huge. Ps. Ideally I would like FMJ/Pac RIGHT NOW but boxing fans are always made to wait so I dont expect that fight to happen any time soon.
What the hell? This is in almost six months. Both could have tune up fights in between, these guys are spoiled too much.
Thats true especially considering these 2 barley broke a sweat in there last bouts. Ok give them a month or so to rest then get them back in training in the middle of February so we can have this fight in early April. The waiting 6 months for this fight will be very hard shortning it by a month is very reasonable.
I like that the JMM-Diaz fight is in Houston. Financially, it makes sense since Houston will put more butts in the seats compared to a fight in Vegas. It gives Diaz at least some sort of advantage against JMM, but not much.
