Seems to be all but irrelevant.

People shitting themselves over the size difference irritate me to no end, as if boxing hasn't been playing out that way for hundreds of years. From Wilde to Dempsey to Mickey Walker and Joe Louis.

Some boxing fans got he revisionist history route moments after a fight has ended, proclaiming that they "knew" such and such would happen and fight A was shot to begin with.

It's pretty disgusting, but that's besides the point.

Anyway, if Pacquaio wins Hoya is a joke as people are focusing more on his money grubbing and his attitude then his ability as a fighter.

If Hoya wins, well, that's just exactly how it should have played out and he's a bully.

Personally, I think it'll say a fair deal about both fighters, as almost all fights tell their own stories if you pay attention.

Thoughts? Anyone get what I'm trying to say?

Well Russell its a fight Delahoya should win and Pacman should lose, simply because a good big man beats a good small man, so yes its a lose-lose for Delahoya

In terms of how they match up

Weight-Pacman will be 147 on fight night, Delahoya probably 160, so its around 2weight classes of real world weight, maybe more given Pac will be blown up but he adds weight better than anyone I've seen with very low bodyfats

    Height/Reach-5-6inches in height

Power - Delahoya simply because hes at least 2weight classes bigger and Pacman didnt look as destructive against Diaz. BUT Pacquaio can still hurt Delahoya, just not that much

    Speed - Pacman

    Prime - Pacman

    Stamina - Pacman

Workrate - Pacman, Delahoya can throw 60punches a round, but Pacquaio will have the more active feet

Strength - Delahoya by a bit

Defense - equal, Pac is a little underrated

You'd have to favour Oscar to pick Pacman off from range, quite possibly walking Pacman down and overpowering him. But if Pacman can slip the jab and get off quickfire combinations backing Oscar up and hold his own for the first 8rounds, you'd favour him down the stretch. I'm a little torn on the outcome

I agree to an extent, but the disparity in size will play a huge factor come December 6th.

People are losing sight of the fact that Oscar De La Hoya vs Manny Pacquiao is not Roy Jones jr vs John Ruiz. That was a bad style matchup for Ruiz regardless of size, because whereas he was slow and plodding, Jones was a speed merchant, who could hit and move for 12 rounds.

Oscar is not a John Ruiz. Oscar has fast hands, good power, and good enough reflexes to be able to counter Manny's flurries.

People are making to much of Forbes going the distance with Hoya. It was a tune up fight, and Forbes has never been off of his feet during his long career. He has a very good beard, and didn't leave himself as open for counters Manny will inevitably do next weekend.

Manny admits that he likes to throw a lot of punches, and he has been open to counters against Marquez, and that's why their fights was close. I believe Marquez hurt Pacquiao in both of their fights, so I hate to think what will happen when Oscar lands big.

This fight is all about Manny. If he can take Oscar's best shots, which I don't see happening, then he might be able to outhussel Oscar. However, oscar has enough skills and speed himself to counter Manny, and once he does, I think it's going to be very bad for Pacquiao.

    Oscar by 5th round KO.

So does Oscar get any credit if he beats Pacquiao?

Would he have to brutally KO him in a few minutes to get even a smidgen of credit?

De La Hoya's own handspeed is being criminally overlooked in this fight. It usually happens when a smaller, faster fighter, goes up a weight division or two against a bigger opponent. Strength, size, and power are usually the areas where the physically imposing fighter has the advantages which stand out the most. While De La Hoya's not quite as sharp as he use to be, his speed hasn't evaporated into that of a shot fighter. Saturday night will reveal all.

:goodExactly the point I was making

People seem to be thinking the only reason Oscar wins this fight because of the size disparity. It's a big factor, but Oscar has a lot of his skills and attributes that would cause problems for Manny, whether he was a Welterweight or a Lightweight himself. Oscar wins because he is a better fighter, I agree with Angelo.
