Yes he landed that pathetic upper cut six times in a row, but there are other factors, Margarito much bigger and probably stronger than Pacquiao, and there is also the plaster factor and if his gloves where loaded in that fight, well even if they were not look at what it took to get Cotto out of there, and Cotto did dish out his share of punishing shots as well can Manny take those shots?

I explained that in the same thread a few posts above the one you're responding to. Margarito having loaded gloves is very possible in this fight, Cotto has been hit hard early but some very good punchers and never looked the way he did early against Margarito after taking some shots, he also had his nose broken too early. Who else did Margarito do that too?

Size wasn't a major factor with Margarito since Marg is tall but fights short, he never took advantage of his height and reach, the guy just came in with zero defense trying to land shots on the inside in close range. If you take him to the middle of the ring he doesn't do **** and doesn't take advantage of his height and reach, something you would expect a tall fighter to be all over as it's a major advantage especially in a division almost all are smaller than him.

About the punches he landed on Margarito, Pacquiao is no Margarito, he won't go in wide open begging to be hit. Pacquiao has serious/underrated movement and defense, he WON'T stand in one place and punch. It's mostly jumping in with bombs and out and constant movement. Cotto needs to set his self and stand still to be able to land punches with power and Pac won't stand for him. Just take a good look what he did to DLH as he kept turning him over and over, that was beautiful.

People never learns. History keep repeating itself....

    Before: Cotto will annihilate Pac

    After: Cotto is shot

if cotto doesn't knock pac out, it's either going the distance with pac winning a UD or SD. i also wouldn't be surprised to see cotto stopped very late in the fight. i really, really hope this doesn't happen, i just really don't like how cotto's conditioning only seems to take him through 10 (non-stop) rounds. he either gasses at the end, or takes breaks during the mid-late part of the fight. he's not gonna be able to take any breaks against pac. he's gonna have to be pressuring him the ENTIRE time. my early prediction is if cotto can't catch pac with big shots, he's screwed. we'll see how long that prediction lasts as i get deeper into the analysis.

great post. cotto's gonna need to get off first and that's gonna be really hard against pac. i see pac's speed and movement really frustrating cotto. cotto's stamina is gonna have to be far and away better than it ever has been if he's gonna be able to compete with that little turbo charged energizer bunny.

Antonio Margarito was not as talentless as you like to portray. Speed was not one of his strengths, but like Humberto Gonzalez for example, he made use of his other assets. His chin allowed him to walk through most of his opponents shots in order to get on the inside. This is where he could smother his oppositions offense, and land very nice uppercuts. Margarito also threw decent combination's to head and body which is often overlooked. His uppercut was a great one though, don't forget that.

Cotto is most effective when he has room, and I think he will get it in abundance against Manny Pacquiao, who isn't as physically strong as Joshua Clottey, or proven to have the punch resistance of a Margarito.

You described Margarito being successful against Cotto, but this was only post 6 rounds of a masterclass boxing exhibition. This won't happen to Pacquiao, but like Margarito, if he wants to be successful, he'll have to be prepared to take some good shots from a powerful Miguel Cotto.

Look forward to a good fight.

If pac can take cotto's punches then he's on a serious problem specially if it goes the distance. It would be a big problem for cotto to handling pac work rate and stamina for 12 rounds considering cotto's suspicious stamina. Imagine pac's fast pace for full 12 rounds. (that is if pac can handle cotoo punches pretty well)
