Im interested to see how the people over this side of the Atlantic see it playing out, some indept insight into the possible outcomes and reasons why. Alot of questions to be answered from both fighters i suppose, you have Pacman growing into the weight and coming up against a strong 147 fighter who will test his strenght and also chin. For Cotto, its the telling point of his career in my opinion, who knows what went on in the Margarito fight and if Margarito cheated or whatever, but Cotto didnt win and probably feels like he has a point to prove since then, his name has faded slightly Its a serious big fight and huge test for both, great fight to look forward to, i was happily suprised when it was made. Im personally edging towards a Cotto win, Roach may work out a plan however that will work and that wouldnt be unlike him. Reason im going for Cotto is his size and power, i think he is a heavy hitter and its against someone who isnt renouned for the best ever defense. Pacman could get tagged a few times by what i think is a smart boxer in Cotto and resort to type and if he resorts to brawling with Cott i only see one winner. But that said, maybe Pacman is to fast and will outbox Cotto that way, it could happen. Its a toss up and i narrowly favour Cotto but that could change with my mood to be honest. Anyone?
Only way I see Cotto winning is if Pacquiao really does fall over at the first sign of a decent welterweight punch. Oscar only landed a few bodyshots and Hatton landed one punch, so it is still a questionmark. That said, I don't think Cotto has Hearns type power, or even one punch power. I just don't see it happening that he'd blow Pac away, it would take an accumulative effort for him. And by the time that happens, I think Pacquiao will have already outmaneovred him and wore him down. I think Pacquiao is just as likely to hurt Cotto as vice-versa.
The way people talk about Pacquiao not being able to take his punch I would have thought so. The point is, he's a strong welterweight puncher and nothing more. Just doesn't seem a likely scenario to me, but I acknowledge it as a question mark. I just can't envisage in my minds eye Cotto KOing him easily like that.
Without being a massive puncher Cottos a heavy handed guy who can take a decent shot. Whether thats enough to beat Pac at 147 is another matter.
He can hold a decent shot. I studied his fights against Judah, Margarito and Clottey and it does appear this could go all the way. I thought Pacquiao by KO initially, but Cotto is a great survivor. If he's buzzed he grits it out, if he's in adversity he'll adapt to the situation and do whatever it takes to hang on until you beat the last bit of life out of him. Another indication is the way Roach has been talking about the fight, he expects a long hard night and I think Pacquiao's gameplan will reflect that.
Manny is going to move in-and-out but he does get reckless that could mean trouble. He has tendency to lunge in, If miguel can handle Pac's power and speed he can assert his physical advantage on Pac.Cotto is slowish and he doesn't really have the speed or reflexes of Floyd. This is a guy who takes punches he has never been un-hittable.Slow as Margarto is, he landed a good amount of punches on Cotto. And Pac is alot faster.I would say 50/50. But this is the real test for Pacquiao. It could that Cotto is too big and strong.Or PAcquiao surprises people once again and hurt Cotto bad anytime in this fight.
Pac is the clear favourite, but I can't help but feel that the Pac unstoppable steamtrain is all too obvious. Also, it's about time Cotto pulled a real big win out the bag to justify/cement his status.
Shane Mosley was a big win, Josh Clottey was a big win, Judah was a very respectable win. This would be a superstar win, but its not like he hasn't got any big wins.
Clottey? and Judah were not particularly great victories, and the Mosley win is only big because of the Margo fight afterwards. Mosley's currency has absolutly shot through the roof again.. there's a good chance he will be beat next time out... Mayorga?
