Pacquaio's fight with Margarito was for the vacant WBC jr middleweight title, with that divison having a weight limit of 154lbs. The fight was made at a catchweight of 150lbs which is still within the jr middleweight limit. Fair enough. However, Pacquaio came weighed only 144 1/2 lbs. While Pacquaio has a major weight disadvantge, IMO, I can't see qualifies for fighting for the title. Surely he needed to weigh-in above 147lbs. I can't mind of any other fight where this has happened in a title fight.

There are no minimum limits to how little you can weigh. Not to my knowledge atleast.

Henry Armstrong, Ray Robinson, Jose Napoles, all of these guys weighed way below the weight limit in some of the divisions they fought in, no?

It's ok with a non-title fight...........But it's stupid and defeats the purpose of weight divisions. Pacquaio weighed as a welterweight yet picked up the jr middleweight title......bull****.

Why? Weight-classes exist to ensure that fighters don't get to big, not to small. Fighters have been stepping into weight-classes they aren't big enough for since before Jimmy Wilde. It's normal, and no, it doesn't contradict what weight classes were originally set up for.

Then why did Roy Jones go up to 193 to face John Ruiz? He probably could have beaten him easier at 175-180.

    You'd need to ask him.

Robinson fought for the light heavy title weighing 157, Armstrong weighed about 142 when he challenged for a portion of the middleweight title. There is historical precendent of this occurring in title fights. If there any complaint with this fight being sactioned for the light middle title for me is that the competitors could not weigh in at the light middle upper limit, not the fact that pac weighed in under the welter limit.

Yep, I agree. They didnt need to drain the **** out of Margarito to beat him, hes slow as a sloth.

left of topic...in the second marquez fight the commentators said pacman had gained 16 pounds since the weigh-in for the fight...he weighed in at 129, that would make him 145 fighting in that fight....cant be right, can it ?
