Pacquaio's speed and power vs. Cotto's swiss cheese defence

These debates are a bit pointless, as no-one is changing anyone's mind, and we will indeed just need to wait and see.

Pacquiao will land four clean for every one he takes back cleanly, and Cotto will break before he does. :good

Cotto's ability to counterpunch Pacquaio is an important issue. But you have to realise that Cotto isn't quite as good a counter puncher as you're making him out to be, certainly not as good as Marquez. Also, Pac isn't a slow, cumbersome welterweight or slippery character with a good chin who is confident of being able to take Cotto's punches. He is going to come in with a gameplan, and that gameplan doesn't involve hanging around waiting for a reply. Pacquaio will be the quickest, most accurate and elusive fighter Cotto has ever faced, bar none.

You touch upon another important issue though - we know Cotto has a good jab and good footwork, but is it good enough to close Pacquaio's attack down - and will Cotto use that jab often enough - or will he get frustrated and lose his composure in light of the relentless stinging shots he's going to be taking. Pacquaio isn't going to allow Cotto the time and space to set himself up and tee off.

I don't see Manny having no difficulties with that jab.

"In and out" only gets you so far. When you throw with power and full extension like Pacquiao does, you can't avoid leaving yourself open for counters. All Cotto has to do is duck to the side and make Pacquiao miss with the left hand, and go to the body or come up with a hook in return. Marquez was doing it constantly with success. Cotto is just as good a counter-puncher as JMM, and much stronger. :deal

All you have to remember is that Cotto is bigger and stronger to realise that him trading with Pacquiao isn't going to work against him.

And when did he do that then? hes fought one fight at welter against de la hoya who basicly was like a skeleton, he didnt throw anything at all. He took a couple scuffed shots from Hatton at 140 and which you could see that he did not like at all. Hatton is no Cotto. And Pacman having good defense are you taking the **** seriously get a grip

I think Cotto's going to be overconfident in his ability to take Pacquiao's punch. He can deny that all he likes, but its a totally natural frame of mind to be in when you're fighting a former flyweight. Whereas Pacquaio is going to be going all out not to get hit by Cotto.

It is a really difficult fight to judge, because of the weight its taking place at and from where Pacquaio is coming up from. But its hard to look past the fact that while Manny has improved his defense steadily over time, Cotto is still as susceptible as ever to anything his opponent throws (especially the uppercut :patsch).

Also, when you consider how clumsy, straightforward, slow and unrefined a guy like Margarito (or Clottey) is, and how easy they found it to land against Cotto, then its not difficult to imagine what an super-fast, super-accurate, elite fighter like Pacquaio is going to do when he finds himself in a similar situation.

Going by Clotteys record of failing to stop 10 of his last 12 opponents, I say he dont stop him at all.

Kendall Holt at 140 who is supposudley a big puncher couldnt even stop Diaz properly, Diaz was still punching back at the time of stoppage, Pac put him to sleep.

Diaz has a very good chin.

Cotto has a superb jab, and Cotto has experience which is why you can never count him out in any fight. Pac is a whirlwind, but if Cotto gets it past 5 rounds, and he is not damaged...he will win imo.

Cotto lost only once, and if he really did have a Swiis cheese defense, then i'm sure he would've been exposed more than once. Being hit clean is one thing but turning hard looking blows into glancing blows is something many fans don't realize boxers are good at...

Huh....pac has very good lateral movement and great upper body movement. Cotto has good "D" and so does "PAC". I think Cotto techically may be a tad better but overall, due to the talent and reflexes PAC has he's better and harder to hit.

Pac is not a stalker like Margarito, and if you allow any man to walk over you, you become easy to hit. Morales found Pac easy to hit and he was a lot slower than Pac.... PAc seemed to hit Morales, but wasn't really hitting him or hurting him except with the body shots. EM's face after his first fight with Pac showed no swelling at all if i'm not mistaken.
