Seemed like there has been some major change in the way Pacquiao fights now after the knock out loss he has suffered in his fourth meeting with Marquez..

    My question is this..

Is he a better fighter now that he used to before? :think

I asked this question a wee while back, and im still not sure

The Filipino whirlwind has become the thinking man's Pacquiao

Will it help him against Floyd?

    I think so

When you get older you slow down so you have to compensate - one way is by fighting more intelligent

The great Marquez' historic punch may well turn out to be a good thing for Manny in this fight

I think the old paquiao would do better against mayweather. I don't think you can out box or out smart Floyd. Paquiaos all out agrresion, work rate, speed and angles and power is what will give Floyd problems. If paquiao boxes, Floyd will figure him out after a few rounds like he always does. I reckon paquiao will go back to his old style for this fight as he will not be worried bout getting KO'd as Floyd hasn't had a ko in a long time.

Don't you think the punch the JMM landed actually helped Pacquiao to finally realize his own weakness and made him a better boxer?

He's more cautious which can be better against certain opponents but not exactly great against defensive counter punchers(Mayweather's style). To beat Mayweather he needs to be in his face throwing and landing anywhere he possibly could. If he poses and is overly cautious, he's losing this badly.

The drawback to that is his chin has now been cracked

If his chin was cast iron as it were pre JMM4 then this would definitely be the right approach

But with that damaged chin, he needs to be more cautious, though obviously not to the extent he tries to outbox the boxer

I wouldn't quickly say that his chin is damaged. He can still take a punch, I'm sure of it and Mayweather isn't exactly a KO puncher nor will he train to sit on his punches either. It's his confidence about his chin that I'm more worried about. Sometimes fighters actually can still take punches even after brutal losses, yet psychologically they convince themselves that they can't and are overly worried in there.

If that happens to Pacquiao and he's forced to pull back many of his punches, then all his chances to win this go out the window. I'm personally expecting Pacquiao to show up in good condition and open up as he always has without worrying too much. Sure there will be confusing moments, happens to all Mayweather opponents, but he will be in there and competing regardless.

Mayweather isn't young either and if Maidana(who's known to making all of his opponents look bad due to his bulldozer style), then Pacquiao can do the same and worse as he already proved against far better opposition than Maidana's.

Pacquiao doesn't have the vicious savageness (savage viciousness) that he used to have. :(

To beat Floyd? ABSOLUTELY. Pac was impatient and got frustrated easily. Now he's more mature and likes to set his opponent up, anticipate. He has better control of himself and that's vital for when you go into deep waters with Floyd.

Do you see him mixing up the old one with the new one? I mean, could he? :think

Definately. He is a better boxer now. But mayweather can't be out boxed. Well I don't think so anyway. So I really don't think that should be paquiaos game plan. Paquiao just needs to be all over him throwing 100s of punches from all different angles. He can't give Floyd a second to think. He needs LOTS of pressure and angles. And has to keep mixing up them combinations constantly. Mayweather is to smart and would have him figured out after a couple of rounds if manny boxes. Mayweather won't be able to throw as many punches as paquiao, so paquiao has to use this to his advantage. Mayweather would love it if Manny tried to out box him. Manny would be fighting Floyd's fight. Paquiao needs to set the pace.

To me that fight was a reckless aberration in his long and steady development as a fighter. That fight was not the watershed some people might claim it to be. Honestly I blame Roach for insisting too much on the knockout in that fight.

The only thing that came out of that fight is that Manny is no longer open to an overhand right.
