I mean Bert Sugar who is notorious for not giving any fighter born past 1950 any credit and to say Manny has arrived, that's a big statement.

Love him or loathe him Bert Sugar is one of the most respected and probably the most thorough boxing historian alive or ever.

I going with a more reliable source such as p4p ranking which has Pacquiao as p4p# 1 for 2 years in a row.

In Fairness theres no way Floyd is above top 40. You just cant ignore what he had done at 130-135.

yes, you are right Chimba, keep on posting....btw, have to say Duran probably deserves to be in top 20 ATG also. Duran was born in 1951.

I would put him with the top 30-40. If Pac fights and beats a couple of other great WW (Mosley, Mayweather), then he will be top 10 for me.

Well to give you an example, I watched an interview with Bert a couple of years ago. He didnt even consider Pac the greatest Asian fighter. I was like WTF?

When something happens in the world of boxing, you have to take it out of the ESB context because it is not a job of posters here to report, its a forum to debate and support "their" fighters.

The historians and analysts, its their job to report Boxing. When Pac beat DLH, Hatton and Cotto..it may not be anything special here at ESB but it is significant in the Boxing world. And the fact is ,the Boxing world has put Manny in high regard and it is safe from opinions posted on an Internet forum.

I can't recall which ATG article that was, but someone place Duran as # 6 ATG which may seem a little high, but that was his choice. As you continue to look down on his list, he place Chavez around # 40 something ATG.

I'll admit, Duran did accomplish more as boxer than Chavez, but the difference in the ranking can be questionable at times.

The problem is for anyone to crack the top 20 they need to overcome some of the most hallowed records in all of boxing.....at the time Pep met Saddler he was 134-1-1...SRR after his loss to Lamotta amassed a 128-1-1 record in his prime (before turpin fights, etc)..Langford and Moore both recorded over 125 KO's a piece in their careers...Boxing is probably the only sport which rates their athletes 30-70 years ago higher than the athletes in the sport today and thats mainly due to the fact they fought at a much more frequent rate back than.

Mosley will help his legacy, not put him Top 10.

You must be joking about Rockgloves, who is currently serving a one year suspension for attempting to illegally load his gloves in his fight last year against Shane Mosley. That is not a legacy fight.

Anyone who thinks Leonard ducked Pryor is a ****ing goof. Who did Leonard duck Pryor to fight? Duran? Hearns? Hagler? Get the **** out of here with that ****. The same goes with Duran.

Edit: Just so you know, if you didn't already, Leonard wasn't even in the same division as Pryor.

That's why ATG lists are kind of skewed. Even with fights in the hundreds, what percentage of those are straight crap fighters/fodder.. it could be that whoever walked through the door they fought, whereas these days people are quick to pair up the best and destroy records.

Secondly, ATG lists might not seem too accurate in regards to who would beat who, since the flow of information has exponentially eased and become more available, and the general knowledge/level heightening with it.

Thirdly, as time goes on, more innovative fighters go down in the history books, their strategies and tactics recorded. Such information becomes readily accessible and replicated, even improved.

That's why ATG lists would only be applicable as to compare the discrepancy of a great fighter among his peers to other great fighters in different time periods. All imo.

So what the hell does it matter that if he was in a different division?? No one said SRL/Duran was scared of Pryor. But in the early 80's no one wanted to fight Pryor not only because he was unstable and was high risk low reward. If he wasnt your mandatory, you sure didnt go looking after him.

Pryor was never an attraction. Only after he beat Arguello did he become somewhat big and by that time SRL was retired.
