Well considering Pacquiao cuts off the ring appallingly, I had always envisaged Floyd backing and circling away from Pacquiao’s left as he [Pacquiao] would fly in, and catching him with a few counters whilst doing so. Pacquiao’s output, as well as his connect-rate, will then drop quite a bit. Comfortable UD, in my opinion.
Good points. To put it simply, the only way I see FMJ winning is if he will indeed be able to control the range -- something that Pac has been quite effective at negating. I'm not concerned about keeping the distance however, I'm pretty sure Pac will be able to negate that easily. What I'm most intrigued with is how well Pac will be able to work in the clinch and if they were able to fix is poor ring cutting skills. And I won't put Pac off as easily with just a "mid-range bust" as a strategy. Pac has pretty underrated parrying and feints, his lunges are also pretty quick if you ask me -- he will be able to time Mayweather as well.
Not that I'm saying Pacquiao is a good inside fighter, but in tight spaces Pacquiao can still get his punches off by creating those angles he does.
This, Pac doesn't have the jab nor the REACH to disrupt Mayweathers rhythm, Mayweather will pretty much control the fight in which way he chooses.
Sure, with good footwork, but again... this leaves him open to countering. Manny likes to hit you and be gone before you can come back with anything. Manny should avoid that "inside situation" if he can in my opinion. Both exceptional fighters however, and we could probably talk strategy and what-ifs all day with anybody who knows something about boxing. We really won't know until we see them in the ring together. EDIT -- Nice strategy conversation btw to all involved... way to keep it clean and free of fanboy talk! :happy
While I share your sentiments about the fight being a product of a boxing genius, that's kinda exactly my point. FMJ was trying hard to "take off Mosley's head", add his connect percentage to that, but Mosley was still fighting until the end of the fight and was nowhere near going down. Hard to give props to FMJ's power if you ask me. Debatable. What clear however is Shane was a different beast AFTER he got knocked down by Pac. He was actually having some success with the overhand counters and the jab. Tasting Pac's power changed all that.
people who keep saying that Floyd is not hitting Shane hard I dont know what you are seeing, he does not have the concussive power like Manny, but he damn sure hits hard enough to make ANYBODY think twice about bum-rushing him that includes Manny.
trade NO but Floyd is a master at fighting in the pocket & still not getting hit flush & he's also a considerably better inside fighter than Manny which is kinda ironic to me
You know, I'm not really sure how much of a relevance the inside game will be. Floyd tends to only fight on the inside when his opponents take it to him there. He's doesn't really force inside fighting on other people. Rather, he draws them in. Manny, with his preference to keep it at mid-range, may not fall into the trap. Who knows. I could be horribly wrong, though.
I just think Floyd might attempt to neutralize some of Manny's speed by taking away his space. I certainly believe that would be sound strategy going into the fight, but perhaps the Mayweathers see something different. And he kind of does force it. Mayweather likes to duck under a punch and step into his opponents. Andre Ward does this as well. Very effective in my opinion, and if you want to fight a little dirty, you can use that shoulder on their midsection as you come in for a little extra "hit." These guys need to f'ing fight....... *sigh*
Which is why I think FMJ will employ some rough inside tactics against Pac. I kinda liked how he did it against Hatton. And if you can watch Pac vs Mosley again, it's pretty obvious how poor Pac is with this. Now on the subject of trading, my point is, if FMJ will stand there flat footed and expect to be able to pot shot Pac, then he better prepare himself for kissing the canvass. He will connect to Pac for sure, but unless he immediately steps back or turn Pac around, he will and he will eat some. I think you may be underestimating just how quickly Pac punches and overestemating Mayeather's D. Hatton hit FMJ cleanly in more than one occasion and Pac's reach, speed, technique and power are all levels above him.
It'll be interesting to see how Floyd fights Ortiz, especially after the long lay off. Could be quite indicative of the tactics he'll employ against Pac.
The biggest misconception I hear is that Manny will just run in there and walk thru Floyd shots and Manila Ice him or that floyd will run and pot shot him I really dont think either will happen. I know Manny has game changing Power but unless he learns how CUT the ring off and STOP getting hit with the orthodox jab he will be in a world of trouble because floyd will Vladimir Manny with the Jab if he gets hit like Shane got hit and gets up
