UFC was great when there were no weight classes and no rules. It was style vs style. Dan severn wrestling. ken shamrock shoot fighting. gracie grappling. black belts in karate that gigantic indian dude. tank abbot butterbeaning it up.
On a different note though, if you want to "save" boxing... Join a boxing gym. Doesn't matter if you go or not. The revenue will help keep it open. "Evangelize" for your sport and the gym you joined! If your place can accommodate it? Get your kids and/or kids in the neighborhood to watch fights with you. We are all DVR'ng it anyway have a "PG-13" replay of the fight. Talk to the parents and tell them your intentions. Invite their kids and them to come and check out boxing with you and your family. (Hell it is good to know your neighbors anyway!) It is easy to sell a young man loud noise and aggression. It is harder to sell focus and discipline.
I'd like to see boxing brought into PE at schools. Although it's very unlikely over here! Hopefully it's more likely in America because I think boxing needs a strong American boxing scene to moved forward.
