What gives Pacquiao the right to demand that his opponent-the defending champion-has to weigh in two pounds below the upper limit for the weight class the belt is for?

Why the fight was at a Catchweight if Cotto is the same fighter with or without the Catchweight ?

pacquiao demanding the belt would not in any way affect the outcome of a fight since they have previously agreed to fight both at catchweight.

mayweather, disregarding the catchweight agreement, would more likely affect the outcome of a fight since he would be coming in bigger while his opponent trained for a weight that he expects himself and his opponent to fight.

again you fail on the comparison.

pacquiao was coming from 140 and weighed 138 in his last fight with hatton. he would be moving up 7 pounds to fight at a ctachweight of 145. cotto's last fight with clottey, he weighed 146 and would move down 1 pound.

catchweight are sometimes made if two fighters of different weight class would meet. don't act like it never existed before. in fact mayweather made the first cacthweight against marquez before pacquiao did it against cotto.

Cotto was a welterweight with a welterweight title. The upper limit for welterweight is 147lbs. Not 145.

Emanuel Steward says “Catchweights should be looked at, especially with Pacquiao. He has been fighting guys, but doesn’t weigh in at the same weight limit that he has challenged them at. I think this should be addressed.” Yes, the catchweight fights have to go. I’m all for Pacquiao fighting whoever he wants to fight. But to have a title on the line for a catch weight fight? Man, that’s really off putting for me. I guess Pacquiao’s adoring fans don’t really mind, but I certainly would if it was for a fighter that I looked up to. I would figure what is the guy doing fighting bigger guys if he needs them to melt down to a lower than the maximum weight.

if you folowed the negotiations, the belt was added later on. they agreed first to fight at 145 without the belt and pac's camp jsut later demanded it on. cotto can refuse if doesn't want it but he got a bit more for the belt.

and again, what does it had to do do with affecting the fight when they agreed to fight at 145 first? it's not like what mayweather has done. floyd deliberately came higher than the agreed upon catchweight. there is no excuse for that.

You mean the same way Pacquiao's blind fanboys accuse Martinez of chasing smaller guys?

You're completely full of ****. You have ZERO argument. How about the 151 catchweight so your man could pick up another paper title?

    you're an idiot.
you said that what floyd did was comparable to what pacquiao is doing.

floyd - fighting at catchweight and NOT making the weight.
marquez - fighting at catchweight and making the weight.
pacquiao - fighitng at catchweight and making the weight.
cotto - fighting at catchweight and making the weight.

one question, do you regard ortiz as a WW WBC champion before he lost to floyd?

Why did Pacquiao have to fight Cotto at 145 when he had fought Oscar at 147 and he would go on to face Clottey at 147?

Answer: to handicap Cotto. Stevie Wonder could see that.

If you're so keen on catchweights, why did Pacquiao make Marquez come up 9lbs instead of meeting him halfway? Not that it made much difference; Marquez still beat Pacquiao and made him look VERY average, even at 144...
