Exactly Clottey was also not prime the guy was 31 or 32 when he fought Pac. Not that it would have mattered any way because Pac had no business fighting the heavy bag.
Just for the record, race has nothing to do with styles, technical qualities or stategy and least of all with physical attributes such as reflexes or speed... It is not just politically correct to say this, it is the truth. And it has been seen throughout, Roberto Duran outfighting Iran Barkley who was much bigger than him and quite many others, Willie Pep, ODLH, Sven Otkke or Henry Maske, Joe Calzaghe, Spadafora, Malignaggi outslicking opponents... The thing is that Pacquiao was talked about and for instance by long experienced Larry Merchant even b4 rematching with the likes of Morales, Barrera or Marquez. He was mentioned at that time as a pound for pound top fighter and that was b'cause he was exciting like latin-american fighters, gutsy like british fighters, becoming smooth, and slick and fast under Freddie, but basically cause he was steamrolling everybody in the way until this point... Just for the record, I believe Manny wanted that Hoya fight like Floyd once did for stardom and money so he went to David Diaz who had faced and had problems with Erik Morales and not for any other reason so Diaz fought on the undercard of Pac's last SFW fight. Floyd was talking about that Hoya fight ever since he was fighting some Victoriano Sosa at LW in Fresno, CA, then he fought common opponents with Pac such as ODLH, Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton. Now, he didn't face DeMarcus Corley, Sharmba Mitchell, Henry Bruseles or Phillip NDou or Zab Judah but if you realize that he beat Clottey who beat Judah, Cotto or Margarito who are far more dangerous than the aforementioned exception made to Arturo Gatti or JLC, then there you have it. It is a myth like many others surrounding and concerning afro-americans I trully believe so...
Na man Campbell was never slick. His best performance was vs the brave, but featherfisted Juan Diaz. If anything Campbell is the epitome of non-slick. That is shown very clear in his epic fail ko vs Peden. I agree somewhat on Guzman, but Guzman is a slick latino fighter. No african latino will tell you he's african he'll tell you he's latino. Not african american, but he does have the slick African American style if that's what you mean. Still, Guzman can get lured into brawls just like in the first Funeka fight. Even Whitaker and Floyd can get lured on rare occasions they're not immune to getting caught. They have to fight back sometimes. I ain't defending Pac just sayin how it is bro.
before we move on to these never ending debate on slick, black fighter or whatever you call it, I think we should agree first on this? WHAT DOES BLACK MEAN? -are black americans called african-american? -are black latino called african-latino? -So Clottey, Benn, Haye considered black then? -Is George Clooney Black? If you get the answer, then -Are Pac's former opponents: Ledwaba, Sanchez, Clottey Black? -Is Nate campbell slick? *****s............................:tired..never tired of surprising ESB since 2009
The level of petty nitpicking on Pac's opponents is hilarious. He's somehow faulted, in retrospect, for picking opponents who end up fighting scared as a result of things he himself is doing right, and if they are 31 they are clearly past their prime for no apparent reason, coming off of arguably their most impressive fight. ****ing hell. Also, Clottey just fought in November and is scheduled to fight again, soon. He injured himself in training and had to postpone coming back. He's been heard from, if you've been paying attention.
Clottey hasn't been doing **** since his loss to Pac. I follow the sport and know he has been fighting nothing but no-hopers and he can't get a date worth note because of how bad he performed against Pac. He's been shelfed and blackballed.:deal
And had you said he's been fighting no-hopers and shelved, I wouldn't have had to correct you. You didn't. You said he's not been heard from. He had an easy fight scheduled, for the Cotto/Mayorga card, pulled out with an injury and it was rescheduled. He hasn't been able to do anything but have an easy comeback fight. Which it looks like he's repeating, but I suspect he was scheduled for the Mayorga/Cotto card, for a possible rematch with Cotto. Regardless, scheduling a fight three times isn't not being heard from, just because he hasn't doing anything on a big stage again, yet.
I think Pacquiao's win over Clottey has become very underrated. People forget how highly rated Clottey was at the time of the bout. Nobody wanted to see it, that's true, but Clottey was considered to be an very good fighter at the time. Only in hindsight do people dismiss the win.
Pac beat Clottey, Mosley and now he's fighting Bradley! Not only was Clottey Black but he was Black supreme!

what does black mean? in my home country, Filipinos are basically black. that's why it makes me fuking laugh to see all these Flips on ESB putting down blacks because most of you are either housemaids or prostitutes where my parents are from and are treated no better than blacks are
