Where does he stand now? His resume is outstanding and the best in recent history. They're calling him a 5 weight world champion but that doest tell the full story of the divisions where he beat 'the man' without picking up a belt. WBC Flyweight champ IBF Super Bantamweight champ *Lineal Featherweight champ* beating Barrera WBC Super featherweight champ WBC Lightweight champ *Lineal Light Welterweight champ* beating Hatton WBO Welterweight champ He's conquered 7 divisions always fighting and beating the best (with the possible exception being lightweight) This is the big difference between Pac and Floyd...Floyd has too often picked up a WBC title without fighting the real no1 in a divison. Lets compare the best wins of each fighter. Mayweather - Corrales, Castillo x2, DLH, Hatton (forced to fight above natural weight) Pacquiao - Barrera x2, Morales x2, Marquez, Cotto, Hatton, DLH Mayweather needs to stop talking about his ppv numbers and start facing some legit opponent...but I doubt he will.
Top 10 for me now. I may be forced to do one of these now and see where I put him but I imagine i'll have him top 15 AT LEAST
Top 25 I'd say, boxings history is so rich with great fighters, Pacs true worth will not be fully appreciated until he is gone from the fighting ring
Top fifteen at least. A win over Mayweather and he gatecrashes the top ten easily. We have a fighter in our time who has a great shot as going down as they all time number one and usually I'm hard on current fighters are more generous to the older generations.
Top 30 maybe higher. I havn't thought about it too much because its going to change with every fight such is the calibre of victory he is racking up. There are a lot of great fighters in history so I wouldn't be too hastey just yet, we'll have a better picture when he's hung them up.
Has any other fighter won a title fighting at a weight almost 50% over where they made their debut, AND beat the champ in each division in between whilst doing it? To say top 30/top 25/top 20 is nuts. He's stonewall top 10 right now. If he beats one of Mayweather and Moseley, he cements that place. If he beats both, **** - he could be the best ever.
Beat Marquez first I've never done a P4P ATG list because, firstly it takes too long, and secondly I wouldn't claim to know enough. But let's face it, he has beaten pretty much everybody worth beating in each weight division he has fought in, during the time he was there - barring 135lbs.... you can't tell me that David Diaz was better than Juan Diaz, Nate Campbell etc. It's not a real blip though.
I said 2 weeks ago if he beats Cotto Mosely and Floyd I'd give him a genuine shout at number 1. May sound hasty but 5 years or so after he retires I think it would be a good shout. BIG if though
If he gets another W against another ATG in Mayweather then he's got to be top 20 I guess, I've never made a list though so hard to tell especially with old time fighters. Would be much easier to look back over last 20 years and see who's better (ducking Leonard, Duran and Hagler for now). The only one I can think could live with him is Whitaker - as a fighter, but Pacman has achieved more against higher standard opposition in massive fights.
