It's interesting that even though he's beating guys who are much bigger, and Margarito, on fight night, was the equivalent of a 'huge' middleweight like Jake LaMotta, he is still categorized primarily amongst lightweights.

If I got complicated it'd confuse you. For instance, Henry Armstrong didnt need catchweights, there was only featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, and middleweight.

He beat the only champion in each weight class, he didnt fight the 3rd, 4th or 5th best guy to pick up a vacant strap.

There were only 8 divisions. With 1 belt each. Not 17 or whatever with 60 belts each.

Lastly, he very nearly won the middleweight title aswell. Oh and he beat 16 world champions, thats more then Pacquiao has even fought to date.

    Are those genuine criticisms?
Different times though. Armstrong finished his career fighting 180 career bouts, something unimaginable today at elite level.

The thing is, this guy is an old school Italian from NYC. He has completely no affiliation with Filipinos as the two ethnicities doesnt really interact.

    Yes. Extremely genuine.
I didnt say anything about the 180 fights. I said something about the 16 champions he beat, throw in atleast 1 top 10-20 ATG, and the 3 titles he won when weightclasses were deeper and you had to beat the man to be considered the champ. You could take out David Diaz level fighter and be considered a champion.

Nah, he really isn't the greater fighter. Although I feel like he does possess the same superhuman qualities in some ways. Pacquiao's career has been managed and handpicked in a way that armstrong's never was, and Armstrong fought more often.

Armstrong was also a thinking, deliberate puncher.

    Of boxing or Pacquiao?
I'm not disputing his achievements, but you can't directly compare the two, otherwise Pacquiao will always lose. It's unfair to put him against guys who had such long careers, without ad******g the criteria.

Its hard to argue with a man whos seen it all. Hes not the only one. Love or Hate Bert Sugar has said this as well, hes seen it all. Even Manny Steward said he was in Armstrong category last year.

Note that these guys are around people whos been in this business (fighters, writers, trainers, promoters etc.) and they arent going to open their mouths just to be ridiculed by their peers.

Me for instance doesnt respect anyones whos talking how great Michael Jordan or the Beatles when theyve never seen it or been there. Its a totally different thing coming from the generation where these moments where happening to fully understand.
