Manny Pacquiao has defined odds many times throughout his career, he has taken on many challenges that other boxers would never consider. He has taken on fighters that were bigger and stronger than him, fighters who many thought would destroy him. However, the “Fighter of the Decade” for the 2000s, the three time Ring and BWA”Fighter of the Year”, always found the way to overcome and dominate his opponent. However, there is one opponent Juan Manuel Marquez who many believe Pacquiao can not overcome.
On November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Pacquiao will be entering the ring to prove his doubters wrong. This time Pacquiao’s mission is to erase any doubt that Juan Manuel Marquez should have been declared the winner from their previous two bouts. The first Pacquiao – Marquez fight back in 2004 ended in a draw, in that bout Pacquiao knocked down Marquez three times in the first round. The rest of the fight many thought favored Marquez, who was able to battle back. In their second bout in 2008 once again, Marquez battled back this time from a third round knockdown and appeared to edge Pacquiao in the final rounds. Though the fight ended in a split decision victory for Pacquiao, many believe that Marquez deserved a victory.
Since his last clash with Marquez in 2008, Pacquiao has been able to chew through world class fighters Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley.
Once and for all Pacquiao wants to end any debate about the outcomes of the last two fights with Marquez. Word out of camp Pacquiao is that Manny is totally focused and wants to end the fight early with a knockout.
Pacquiao an eight division world champion, winner of six world titles, the first to win the lineal champion in four different weight classes and 53 professional victories still needs to add one more accomplishment to his resume a knockout win over Marquez. This fight with Marquez is beyond the normal fight for Pacquiao it is a personal challenge. It appears that Pacquiao does not like Marquez especially after Marquez appeared wearing a shirt labeled ‘I beat Manny Pacquiao Twice’. This probable will not help Marquez at all, and only give Pacquiao added incentive.
Pacquiao knows it is meat and potatoes time he can not give Marquez any chances this time around, he can not let Marquez stay around longer then he should. Most of all Pacquiao knows that he needs a knockout victory to ensure that there won’t be any doubt regarding who’s the greater boxer.
