the promotion on this one was pretty poor- no 24/7- no proper hype, only 2 press conferences. it would be lucky to do a million. I think it would be lucky to do so. Especially considering that Pac is pretty much doing all the pull. some factors- Pac is bigger than he has ever been before. - plus - Clottey has no draw power at all - minus - no americans- minus - no real ppv around the date - plus - people are pissed about no floyd/pac- minus - not being in vegas- therefore affecting ppv - who knows? - no publicity compared to the past- no 24/7- minus so all in all- i think 800 000 is expected. should it do 1-1.5 million- arum will be over the moon. i think anything sub 1 million- and floyd has all he leverage he needs to be a complete dick in the negotiations. if it does anywhere near cottos fight- which was lke 1.25- than pac can say since clottey is less of a star- then that his star power has in fact grown- as has his drawing power in the states. he can say that since he drew 70 percent of 1.25 million last time- and this time he s drawing 100 percent- then in fact- his ppv numbers have in effect improved. if that makes any sense.
I think people are losing perspective with all this talk of 1 mill buys, no way this gets anywhere near that number, can't really see how it does that much more then Pacquiao vs Marquez even though Manny has a bigger profile now that is off set by the fact that Clottey is an unknown who was seen as a tune up before Mayweather, at least JMM brought those Mexican buys in.
I think they'll be underwhelming. Cotto drove a lot of the PPV along with Manny for their fight. He was better known and had been in bigger fights. Clottey's highest profile fight before that was between Corrales or Margarito - neither of whom were big TV draws themselves. Manny's a great A-side, but he's no Oscar where people just turn up to watch. And even then, Oscar needed a good b-side to make the million plus numbers. I think it'll be a respectable 600,000. The sad fact is, for Manny at least, that Mosley-Mayweather is a better fight - name-wise, legacy-wise, divisionally and in public interest. Both guys have beaten Oscar, Mosley in clearer fashion when Oscar was in his prime. Mosley has faced the best in the division. Mayweather hasn't. Can Mayweather prove he's a genuine great? Can Mosley turn the tables on the favourite same as he did against Margarito? it's a story. Pac-Clottey was a foregone conclusion.
Nope, not really. Arum told Dan Rafael recently that they still haven't made an official pick for head trainer, but reaffirmed that Joe Santiago still will remain part of the team. Cotto in Dallas this weekend to watch the Pacquiao fight and iron out contract details with Top Rank.
Good points except for the one I bolded. I don't think not being in vegas has anything to do with the people who ordered the fight.
If Arum "wont be shocked" if it hits 900k, realistically we are probably looking at 600k. If this does anything below 750k, this is bad for Pac in regards to future Pac-PBF negotiations.
