Pacquiao-Clottey Texas bout a done deal, says Arum THERES NO SIGNED DEAL YET, BUT BOTH Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey have reportedly agreed in principle to do battle on March 13 at the Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Pacquiaos promoter Bob Arum told Sports Illustrated Friday that the Filipino ring icon will be staking his World Boxing Organization welterweight crown against Clottey, who lost to Pacquiao victim Miguel Cotto via a controversial split decision last June 13. Another website reported that the 33-year-old Clottey (35 wins, 3 losses with 20 KOs) was ecstatic after being informed of the fight with Pacquiao and is returning to the United States from his hometown Accra, Ghana, Monday. ESPNs Dan Rafael further substantiated the Pacquiao-Clottey encounter in the studio in Friday Night Fight, according to badlefthook.com. The report added that Top Ranks honchos, led by Arum, will be the guests of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during the Cowboys National Football League Wild Card playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) at the Cowboys Stadium which can accommodate 111,000 people. In the same SI.com article, Arum stressed that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is no longer being considered as a probable Pacquiao opponent and that he isnt negotiating with Team Mayweather anymore. Despite Arums statement though, the Mayweather camp, with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer at the helm, is scrambling to save what could be the richest boxing fight ever. A report by Michael Marley at Examiner.com also said that a PPV network was given the heads-up to keep its March 13 and March 20 dates open for the possibility of Pacquiao-Mayweather pushing through. According to various Internet reports, this weekend will be crucial as both camps try to find a way to salvage the super bout that was stalled due to disagreements over drug-testing protocols. Mayweather has received a brunt of the blame for the collapse of the so-called Fight of the Century, but the undefeated superstar, in a statement, shifted the blame to Pacquiao, saying that his camp came up with a compromise that the Filipino boxer refused. Pacquiao had earlier turned down a fight with super welterweight champion Yuri Foreman because of size concerns. source: http://sports.inquirer.net/professi...uiao-Clottey-Texas-bout-a-done-deal-says-Arum
Arum is demented now so just wait for the press conference. With him everything is agreed already even the Floyd Mayweather fight was agreed but what happened?
Dallas stadium is huge but because of that gigantor screen in the center its a damn good place to host a fight. I wish I was there man. This might be the Pacman's last fight and it would be a shame to have never been to a Pacquiao fight. If I can get a cheap ticket i will make the flight down to texas cause there might never be another chance..
Does Arum really think he could fill a 100k seater stadium with Pac-Clottey? Maybe as GBP/Floyd comes crawling back, Arum will accept the 14day proposal but demand the fight in Dallas? Afterall, he seemed quite keen on it and it was Floyds team who didnt want Dallas. I also do not get Arums logic in not accepting the 14 day proposal. I could understand if it was Pac whos enraged by it and feels insulted...however Arum is a promoter, Im sure he knows 14 days is reasonable and he stands to loose a lot of money by not encouraging Pac to take it. It seems like Arum is more enraged by Floyds demands than Pac himself, the blood wont weaken Arum and he should be trying to cash out on Pac, loosing a few mil because he doesnt want Pac to give blood within 14days is just puzzling.
There better be a sweet undercard cause I doubt Clottey Vs Pac will do as good as Cotto Vs Clott. They should have atleast fought in San Francisco or the Philipines.
I can't see this being Pacquaio's last fight. I'd think if he had one fight left then he'd fight Mayweather regardless of the demands. A Maywether fight means so much more from a financial and signifigance standpoint than a Clottey fight. But I agree with the Dallas stadium being a good place to have the fight. It clearly adds something extra to the fight.
That would be the best card ive seen in a while. I dont know if it can be done since Valero is fighting DeMarco and JMM would have to vacate if he doesnt fight Katsidis.
Yep, he will need a mexican and a puerto rican to fill that stadium up. Then you have the americans, PR, mex, and filipino's attending the fight. Maybe stick Khan in there too.
