"'Ellerbe criticized Cotto's HBO and pay-per-view ratings, and said the Puerto Rican is not fiscally or historically appealing enough.'

'It has nothing to do with Cotto's ability or talent, because I happen to believe he's a very good fighter,' Ellerbe said. 'I just don't think he brings enough to the table. Right now, he's not a draw in boxing. Outside of the hardcore press, nobody cares. If nobody's watching, what makes the guy important?'"

I'm not saying he ducked him, because Cotto's team didn't want the fight at 140.

This was after Arum said they Floyd couldn't fight Cotto. (Floyd still promoted by Arum at this time)

Well this same scenario played out when Floyd and Cotto were still at 140.

I disagree, when Mayweather was calling Cotto out, he was still green. That was after the Gatti fight.

This was the best fight they could have taken financially next to the DLH rematch, why make him a nobody then and make him a somebody now?

I can't honestly see how pac thinks it should be a 50-50 split if he could barely beat fraud in the fight of his life against a popular dangerous opponent when fraud nearly drew this many in a tune up that no one thought the opponent had a chance to win.

    And Arum said no.

Cotto after Gomez was on a course to fight Margarito. The fight couldn't be made anyway.

    From the same interview:

"We can't say what's going to happen a year from now, but at this moment, he's not in the stratosphere."

And here we are, a year and a half later, and things have changed. Cotto has had a few more PPVs, the welterweight division has seen some great fights, and boxing in general is still in the middle of a resurrgence. And, of course, the Mosely/Margarito/Cotto round robin, the handwrap scandal, and Cotto's comeback have enhanced the drama.

200,000 more than Mayweather v JMM? I wonder what the numbers would have been if it was Mayweather Cotto, more like 1.75

    Good point...Nipplefloss

That's the thing Floyd had a shot at Cotto when Cotto was still undefeated, he's stock was still really high then. He just came off beating Mosley. They brushed him off like he was a nobody, yet now that he pulls 1.25 he's a somebody.

Floyd never stepped up to the plate and now he should reap the benefit from Cotto's and Pacquiao's success. Just my opinion.
