The thing is doesn't his home country get the damn fight for free. That's a serious disadvantage when talking ppv numbers.
Not at all this fight was being talked about before the Gomez fight. He was at a high after the Mosley fight. WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) is not going to wait around for his WBC counterpart, Floyd Mayweather Jr (39-0, 25KOs), to make a decision as to whether or not he will fight him. Speaking with Boxing.Scene.com's Bill Emes, Cotto says he is tired of hearing excuses on why Mayweather won't take the fight. "He always runs [from me], makes excuses on why he shouldnt fight Miguel Cotto. I'm here for the big names. If he doesn't want to fight me than I can do something else. I don't know," Cotto said. http://www.boxing.scene.com/?m=show&id=11683
Floyd's a bigger draw than Pacquiao, period. Nobody expected Mayweather-Marquez to pull in one million buys. Most people were expecting less than half that for Floyd's return. Mayweather-Cotto would have easily surpassed 1.25 million. The purse should be split 50-50 for Pacquiao-Mayweather, though. Pacquiao's accomplishments exceed those of Mayweather's and Manny's proven to be a big draw, although not as big as Floyd.
Pac owned the UglyBoy on that one!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, out of 1 mill of FM vs JJM, about 800k to 900k were sold because of Dinamita!!!!!!!!! So in essence Dinamita owned the UglyBoy too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **** that scared beatch!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pure fantasy and speculatio. "JMM has a country behind him. a country. A COUNTRY!" in Floyds own words. They chose JMM cos he was a draw, not because he's not a draw.
say what? They chose JMM b/c he's a draw. Laughin JMM never drawn flies on his own. They chose him b/c he was P4P and a common opponent of Pac's. They didn't choose him for his drawing power. Laughin.
Watch the video I posted, it was Mayweathers reasoning as to why they chose him. "He has a country behind him, a country, A COUNTRY!". You could say the same for Cotto, Cotto has never drawn on his own. JMM-Pac drew 425k at SFW, thats huge and a record ppv buys south of LW. That was before he established an even bigger name by beating up the LW's and moving up to WW. Although a lot of hardcore fans so the fight as it was, the promotion dragged in the casual fans who bought into the whole p4p #2 vs former p4p #1. And you probably had every mexican buying that....there's a lot of them in the US.
Let's also remember the beautiful illegal black boxes available around the time of those fights.:good
that was just hype, they didn't actually choose JMM because he's a draw and in fact, they didn't say he was a PPV draw. They chose him for the reasons i stated. Marquez himself probably amounted for 50k of the buys.
