Pacquiao-Cotto II Would Be at a Catch-Weight, Says Koncz

    By Lem Satterfield

If a deal for a November fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. falls through, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao would have two options on the table. The first option, who is seen by most as the frontrunner, is Antonio Margarito. The second option would be a rematch with WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, who Pacquiao stopped in the twelfth round last November.

Pacquiao's adviser, Michael Koncz, says a Pacquiao-Cotto rematch would not take place at the full divison limit of 154-pounds. A catch-weight would have to be in play. When they fought for the welterweight crown last November, the fighters agreed on a catch-weight of 145-pounds. Pacquiao has since fought, and beat, Joshua Clottey at the full welterweight limit of 147, and the Mayweather fight would also take place at the full division limit.

The junior middleweight division is another big step for a fighter who began his career at 106-pounds and won seven divisional titles. The proposed catch-weight for a Cotto rematch has not been disclosed, but some sources have indicated a possible weight of 150 to 151-pounds.

"There is a rematch with Miguel Cotto at 154 pounds. But obviously, we're not going to have Manny fight at 154, we'll probably do a catch-weight. They haven't said where a Cotto fight would take place, but he won the title at 154. We have a very good relationship with Brian, Miguel Cotto's translator, and I've talked to him in New York. And we can do a catch-weight and so forth," Koncz said.

I'm all for Manny going up in weight taking numerous belts and such, but all this catchweight bull**** is enough. If you want to challenge a champion then go to HIS ****ing weight class or don't fight at all!

F*ck off Koncz. No one wants to see this fight, it's pointless! If you can't get Mayweather, then take out Bradley. It'll be easy, more meaningful, and Pacquiao will get even more respect from the fans.

I'm totally against fighters fighting at a catch weight for a belt. For me it only highlights the corruption in the sport.

If they want to fight at a catchweight, fine. But how can a fight be allowed to be for the 154 title, when the fighters must weigh 151 or below?

Pacquiao hammered Cotto last time out, why are they so afraid to let him come in at the top weight?

I wouldn't mind seeing a return fight at 147, or 154 with a belt on the line, but id rather see a Berto fight if Mayweather falls through again.

In fact, a Cotto Berto fight wouldn't be a bad idea either...

    :tired

    Always taking advantage...
Miguel was weight drained at 145...so he will at 150? right? :tired
Manny is too small to fight at 154...
So, if Cotto wants the fight at 150...It's his problem. Yeah he'll be weight drained i guess.

Nobody have to accepts team Pacquiao's demands.
    Same with Floyd's.

Pacquiao wins this bout 9 times out of 10...I would say he wins 10 times out of 10 because I believe he has Cotto's number with his speed and angles, but for the unpredictability of boxing...I'll stick with 9/10.

Well anyway...this bout shouldn't happen, I'd expect everyone to boycott this Arum influenced bout if it were to happen.

    Catchweights are ****ing stupid.

Pac should let cotto weigh whatever he wants, pac doesn't need to regulate him. He is just going to rehydrate up to whatever anyway, cotto is not big enough for 154 himself.

This is gay, and I hope they aren't seriously considering this.
